Welcome to Action Sandbox. I hope you’re after some crazy, physics-based fun. I didn’t mean to make that sound like I’m your boring physics teacher, because this game is genuinely a hoot. This game provides an unparalleled amount of freedom to its player base with all the incredible things that you can build and all the amazing scenarios that you can design. It’s like you can plug your imagination right in and straight into the madness. This game is like a toybox filled with parts that you can build anything you want out of. So, if you’re looking for a game with previously unseen levels of creativity, you have come to the right place. Let’s get into it.

Gameplay

So, the gameplay in Action Sandbox follows the fundamental concept of “the only limits are your imagination.” In this surprisingly well-designed game, you are able to create and play with digital toys. You can design a character and make them look however you want to. Create and control amazing high-concept battle armor or a transforming truck and get into fights with zombies.

With a simple click-and-drag function with easy rigging, Action Sandbox has been designed to provide you with the maximum amount of freedom and the fewest limitations. It gives me pretty similar vibes as People Playground and Besiege, but with a visual style closer to The Escapists.

Whether you want to create a robot giraffe with a face that shoots lasers, or create a gauntlet style test of a person’s gameplay dexterity, you can do it. There is no pre set goal in this game, just the one you set for yourself.

Creative Freedom

I know that this probably seems like it should be in the gameplay section and I have spoken about it a little there but I really need to hit home on the selling point of this title. Action Sandbox’s level of creative freedom is shocking. Say you were creating a person, you can choose every aspect of how they are dressed, how they look and what they do. You’ve got independent clothing and hair physics, as well as things like hats and guns that can be taken from the character under certain circumstances. Get wrecked and expect to lose your hat.

It’s a series of very small details that all add up until the game becomes a type of gestalt; a creation that is, as a whole, greater than the sum of its parts. I found myself spending ages on each detail of my creations, and thoroughly enjoying every step of the way.

Visuals

The visuals of this game are brilliant. It has a fantastic art style with looks pixelated, but everything is in crystal clear detail. You can tell that this is an artistic choice, and not a tech limitation, just by looking at it. If you want something that break the mold a bit, then this is the game for you.
