Military simulation games are a dime a dozen, with simply too many options to choose from. If you are looking for a tank-based war simuilation, though, AutoRotate180s new release, Armored Front: Tiger Command, could be just something that you are looking for.
Currently in Early Access, this title has gained a fair amount of interest in a short amount of time. If you fancy blowing something up and feeling good whilst doing it, then you should absolutely take a look at Armored Front: Tiger Command.
Intriguing tank action with RPG elements
One thing to note about Armored Front: Tiger Command is that it has a touch more depth to it than usual games like this. Unlike something like World of Tanks, Armored Front: Tiger Command does a good job of offering some more RPG-themed elements. This fully interactive VR game puts you in command of the Tiger Tank as you make your way across North Africa.
The graphics are pretty basic, even for a VR game, but it plays well enough and remains quite smooth as you play. The game is all about pretty basic warfare, with the approach being that you work your way across the desert in your tank. While there is not a huge amount to do at the moment, with Early Access still limiting features, the developers have stated they intend to add in more detail and things to do. For a VR-themed tank sim, though, this seems to be a pretty solid job of giving players a little bit of a taste of what riding a tank might be like.
Interesting, if limited, tank VR fun (6.5/10)
While we have only played this titled in its current EA form, we can say that Armored Front: Tiger Command is quite fun. It is, though, some what limited and it will definitely need more added. While the actual process of driving the tank is good fun, what it lacks at present is enough action. Sure, there is combat – it is the main point of Armored Front: Tiger Command apart from the tank simulation itself – but it is not necessarily very deep at present.
We expect more to be added in the future, with the full release expected in mid-November. This should add a touch more realism to the game and make it more fun to play, as at present there is a significant limit to the things that you can actually do.
While Armored Front: Tiger Command is definitely an enjoyable title to try out, it lacks the polish that one might expect of an EA game. If it gets more detail and more features at full release, though, this could definitely be a fun title to try out for war buffs.
- Interesting sense of realism in the layout of the tank cockpit.
- Easy to ride and enjoy VR experience paired up with some fun combat.
- Lacks enough features and detail to really make a hugely positive impression in Early Access.
