Chill Town

The sequel to one of the most relaxing gaming experiences I've ever had, Chill Town promises more of the trademark laidback social gameplay that made its precursor such a beloved hit.

Taking clear inspiration from one of the most popular town builders out there might seem risky, but this game manages to differentiate itself just enough for it to stand out on its own as a unique title. Sure, some of the features (and even the visuals) might seem a tad too similar to a popular game starring animals in a crossing of some sort… but that doesn't mean that Chill Town doesn't offer some serious chill time.

Relax and Breathe

Perhaps you might remember a small indie game that came out a while ago called Chill Corner. The game featured a single character living in a small apartment which you decorated to your liking while listening to some soothing tunes or just watching the colors flow.

That same relaxing experience is what Chill Town aims to capture, only this time, instead of having a single room, you'll have a quiet town all to yourself.

Just one look at Chill Town is all it takes for anyone to realize that the game is trying – perhaps a bit too hard – to be Animal Crossing. Still, there's plenty more to discover for the game to be its own thing.

Visual Similarities

From the chibi characters to the soft colors, everything about Chill Town seems to have been specially designed to soothe the player. However, it also looks like an Animal Crossing knock-off, so that's some dangerous waters to tread.

That aside, there's plenty to discover here that Chill Corner players will enjoy. For instance, the game allows players to decorate the town however they like, with the optional objectives proving more of a bonus rather than an obligation.

If you like games like Stardew Valley for the freedom they give you when deciding how to set up your farm, but can't deal with time and resource constraints, then Chill Town is the game you've been waiting for.

Idle Life

Much like the previous game, designing visually pleasing landscapes is just the first part of the experience in Chill Town. After you've finished meticulously planning every aspect of your idyllic farm town, then comes the satisfaction that comes with seeing it bloom on its own, without the need for player input of any sort.

The game comes with a feature that lets you see scenes from your town as dynamic wallpapers that you can leave on while you work on a second monitor. Since the game is fairly light on resources, Chill Town also doubles as a fancy wallpaper for your multi-monitor workstation.
