Welcome to Chorus! Take control of the character Nara as she navigates the dangers of space and the difficulties that come with a complete personality shift. Nara controls the high-tech sentient spaceship known as Forsaken and together, its up to you to put an end to the Circle, a space religion who have gotten a just as murdery as they were preachy. This fantastically realized game offers brilliant space battles, stunning scenery and a pretty great story to bring you through it all. If you want a space shooter that cuts the rubbish and gives you something special, you want Chorus. Let’s get into it.

Gameplay

Chorus has you pilot the futuristic ship known as Forsaken, as a woman named Nara. The ships abilities are absolutely fantastic and it really helps cut all the boring or frustrating bits out of space battles and introduces a much smoother and more engaging time. Without spoiling too much, one of the best abilities that Forsaken has is the ability to warp behind targeted enemies.

Long gone are the minutes spend spinning around in space, trying to locate whoever you locked onto, wherever they are. Now, with the click of a button, you are brought immediately to a place behind the enemy, so they can be blasted out of the sky without the wasted time.

Another ability is the ships drift mechanic, which allows you to spin the ships position while maintaining momentum. This lets you flat spin through enemy command ships and blow them to hell like a Beyblade covered in lasers. If that doesn’t sound awesome to you, you must be made of stone. Barrel roll and blast your way through the vast open galaxy as you move from section to section, bringing the fight to the enemy’s front door.

The game functions like a much smoother Elite Dangerous, No Man’s Sky or Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, with none of the time wasting.

Visuals

Hey, the visuals in this title are actually pretty top notch. This game has been lovingly crafted and its easy to tell that from the get go. With fully animated cutscenes where we get to see Nara and Forsaken interact with the universe, to the stunningly rendered space battles and environments, you will constantly be blown away by how good it all looks. One thing I did find was that everyone other than Nara looks the same. Clearly the devs didn’t have time to work on everything but it is easy to ignore.

Story

Okey, the story had no right being as good as it was. I was genuinely shocked that, once you make it through the sci-fi mumbo jumbo and world building, you are left with a pretty brilliant story about struggle and righteousness.

There is a lot that has been jammed into this universe, but I absolutely found it to be a joy to play from start to finish. Learning about it all was a genuine blast and the story pulls on some heart strings here and there.
