If you’re looking for adult humor, space-themed parody, Daiteikoku is a solid game that essentially recreates World War II but in space. This game is similar in a lot of ways to Rance Quest in that it has Hentai scenes, but game play is the main focus. If you spice up Eiyuu Senki with more sexual content, it would be similar.
Again similar to Rance Quest, there is a huge cast of characters that the main character, Tougou, interacts with. Some of these scenes are erotic, but it’s possible to avoid most of the erotic scenes by avoiding any quests with the “H” (for hentai) on them if you find them unpleasant.
Daiteikoku is a visual novel with game play added, and each quest unlocks more of the content. There are also multiple endings, which keeps the game fresh and entertaining through multiple plays.
One of the best parts of this game is how well laid out the combat is. There is very little RNG in the game, which means that damage from attacks are relatively consistent. You know what to expect from combat, and it is within the realm of possibility that you could play the game without taking any damage.
One drawback to the gameplay is that you can’t simply retreat from a battle and try again. Instead the player must intentionally lose and start the battle from the beginning. This is relatively small in the grand scheme of things, but can be annoying enough to limit how many times you want to play through the game.
Another potential problem is that the game can actually get easier rather than more difficult as it progresses, and some random chances make the game very difficult. As an example, if a random chance causes all of your even or odd commanders to lose 70% of their power, and you only have those commanders left, you’ll be unable to win.
Limited English Translation
As of November, 2020, the only English translation of the game is the fan driven “English Translation Project.” Unfortunately, only about 35% of the game was translated, and to date no farther translations have been made. This is in part due to lack of people to translate, but also do to the sheer size of the script. Daitekoku is one of the longest visual novel scripts of it’s time. Another effort was made to translate it in 2018, but it was decided that an official English translation was likely, so no further efforts have been made.
Although 35% doesn’t seem like much, there are 50 hours of gameplay available, which means this is still a very significant amount.
This game is light hearted and fun, with tons of engaging material to keep you busy. While it’s not appropriate for children due to sexual content among other themes, it’s a fun game for adults. There’s lots to see and do, and rich characters really help bring this game to life. Even if you’re not wild about hentai but can’t resist a good story, the ability to skip many scenes helps make this game enoyable for a broader audience.
This game is perfect for mature players who like sci-fi, flexible endings, and sci-fi parodies.
