ElectriX: Electro Mechanic Simulator

Working with electrical components isn’t for everyone. Given that electronics comprise a major part of everyone’s life nowadays, its impossible to deny the necessity of them, that they work properly. One of my friends works as an electrician (slightly different than an electrical engineer but same idea) and asking him how any of it actually works sounds like a bit of gibberish to those uninitiated (aka me). Even so, talking to him about those sorts of things always gets my mind running about how I could at least gain some surface level experience in something that is so foreign to me. Although a video game could never fully capture that experience, I’ve come to like simulation games quite a lot over the past few years, which has given me a lot of hope for Electrix: Electro Mechanic Simulator. With no firm release date, Electrix aims to put you into the shoes of an electronics repair specialist that operates out of Seattle, though there’s more to it than what meets the eye.

Refining Skills

I’ll get into what makes Electrix a bit more sinister than you might imagine, but it would be good to go over what the planned gameplay will be like. As with any simulation game, you’ll be tasked with learning some of the ins and outs of what its like to be an electronics repairman. Overall, it would appear that what you’ll learn will actually be quite in-depth, as wrong movements/operations will result in the device you’re working on breaking. For the most part, you’ll be tasked with repairing mobile phones, laptops, and other consoles, but there are over 40 different devices that will come into the shop during each day. Throughout the game, you’ll gain money that you can spend to expand your knowledge on different electronics, methods for repairs, and progression as a whole.

Its difficult to tell whether this will useful as a comprehensive guide to repairing actual electronics, though the safe bet is that it likely won’t. We’ll see once the full game releases – still, it will probably help players become more familiar with different devices and nomenclature in the realm of electronics.

A Mysterious Subplot

Alongside the main purpose of the game in repairing electronics, you will also receive an extra charged mobile phone on day one. You can choose to repair it at any time throughout the progression of the game, though it is not necessary unless you’re willing to be a bit daring.

Bottom Line

Currently, all that’s known about the phone is that it will lead the player down paths related to less ‘advisable’ paths for electronics, like hacking and decoding. It’s a bit of a rabbit hole that you can fall down that you may not be able to escape from once you’ve committed.
