The Eternal Cylinder is the latest game by the ACE Team developer company, and it is also its most creative one so far. It is pretty much a survival game with one crazy spin, but we'll get more into that a little later. This game is still on closed Beta and should be fully out later this 2021 in the Epic Games Store. But what is this strange game all about and what makes it special? Well, we're still not sure when it will fully release, but we can talk about it based on the closed beta that was already available for a while.
About the game
In The Eternal Cylinder, you control a strange race of alien creatures called Trebhum, who are running away from a giant cylinder that’s crushing everything on its way. This Cylinder is threatening to destroy all life in its surrounding, the Trebam needs your guidance to make it out alive of this nightmare.
The world this mystic, giant Cylinder is crushing is a procedurally generated one, and you are going to do everything in your power to stop this chaos. It initially appears to be a pretty simple survival story, but as we progress there’s a nice story developing, and thanks to the narrator we’ll find out more about this mysterious world.
This game forces you to be in constant movement, as the cylinder is always on the move, and even though it is a bit slow, it is still moving, and if it catches you, that's it. Through your journey, you'll find different temples that the ancients of the planet used. These are full of puzzles, but it is up to you if you want to solve them for some upgrades and hidden secrets,
A unique experience?
The Eternal Cylinder is in many ways pretty unique, as you can see it is something that resembles Spore but also has elements like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. And the procedurally generated alien planet also resembles the style of No Man's Sky. It is a combination of many things, that individually are excellent, and together somehow they do work nicely.
The giant cylinder isn't the only thing you have to worry about, not all alien races on this planet are as friendly as the Trebhums. And even though they all run from The Cylinder, they can also be hostile against your people, you'll need to find upgrades and train to get over some challenges in the plan.

It's not every day that we find a game that feels like something new and original, but this is the case with The Eternal Cylinder. Even though it clearly takes a lot of inspiration from many different titles, it ends up being completely unique, and that is a pretty strange thing to find.
Surviving in this world represents a lot more than just not getting killed, there’s also the element of expanding the race. And To do this you’ll also have to get your creatures big and strong, this means getting food, upgrades, and breeding the best creatures you can.
Pros:
- Very original
- Fun to play
- Interesting mechanics
- Great designs
Cons:
- Still not launched
- The game is still a bit glitchy
