Remember when God sims were all the rage, well that is what Fata Deum is trying to bring back. This is a genre that was pretty damn huge in the 90s and into the early 00s, but it seemed to just drop off. I think that what this game is trying to do is really cool and I has a real throwback to it, but not so much in the gameplay, more in the style of the game if you get what I am saying. It feels like it has been forever since I played a fun God sim, so I have spent a lot of time with the demo and I will probably pick this up once it is complete.
A Young God Trying To Get By
There is a campaign for us to play through in Fata Deum. We play as a young God that has a new settlement that they get to rule over and it is up to you how you want to go about doing this. While there is a narrative that plays out here, the developers (as I write this) have kept quite a bit of it under wraps so I am not sure what exactly it will entail. However, I do know that we will have a series of challenges that we have to play through.
Good Or Evil Homer!
I feel that I do not reference the Simpsons enough when I review games so Fata Deum gave me the perfect chance to do that. One of the appeals of these god sim style games is getting to be the kind of ruler you want. In this game you can be a good god, where you make sure that your people are well looked after, that their settlement grows, has plenty of food, they have fun and worship you because you look after them. Or, you can be an evil God that has your people living in sin with demons, blood and ready to wage war with other settlements that are ruled by rival Gods! It is compelling stuff and just one move can tip the scales from you being good to going over to the dark side.
It Doesn’t Matter If Your Black Or White!
The presentation of Fata Deum is quite interesting. It is not the kind of game that is going to blow you away, but things are well detailed enough I know that comparing it to the classic God sim, Black and White is kind of lazy, but I do feel that Black and White had to have been the inspiration for what they have done here as it looks like how that series could have progressed had it kept going on. I have to say that playing as an evil god has your settlement looking so much more cooler and more fun in my opinion.
I loved God sims back in the day and I think that what they are trying to do here with Fata Deum is really cool. I have really enjoyed what I have played in the demo so far and think that for some folks, this could be a real surprise hit of 2022. I highly recommend that you check out the demo and see if this game is for you.
- It is a return to god sim games which I love
- You can play as an evil or a good god
- The game sounds like it is going to have a lot of depth once it is done
- I like how different the visuals are between being a good and bad god
- If you are not into God sims then this is probably not for you
- I hope that they get this game out soon!
