GUILT: The Deathless

I have spent quite a bit of time with the demo of GUILT: The Deathless and wanted to share my thoughts on the game. It is due for release this Spring and so far, things are looking very good. It is a roguelike action RPG that has a twisted style based around Slavic folklore and it has all the makings of a real cult hit. I like the way that it is your own adventure, but what other players do can help or hinder your progress.

Walking The Trail

I am not all that knowledgeable about Slavic folklore, but this twisted world that GUILT: The Deathless is set in and we are playing in is inspired by it. There was a terrible event that destroyed the world and now a powerful sorcerer by the name of Koschei has locked you into this “dark pact” so that the realm can be saved. There look to be some interesting characters to interact with and I am very interested in the lore that this game has to offer.

Diablo/Doom

One of the things that really drew me to GUILT: The Deathless was the incredible dark, twisted and grim visuals that the game has. It was the creature designs that really appealed to me here, they are truly fantastic and some are just kind of weird, some are creepy and others are like the stuff out of H.P Lovecraft’s nightmares! The best way I can think to describe the visuals is that they are like a middle ground between Diablo III and Doom and that is meant in a very complimentary way.

So Much To Take In

The gameplay of GUILT: The Deathless is kind of like your typical roguelike action RPG, but it is putting its own spin on things. The levels are procedurally generated, but what other players do can have an impact on your game. from them leaving some loot, a dead corpse, or even putting something in your way to make things more difficult for you. I like the idea of this as it means that you never know what a run is going to throw your way.

The Ultimate Warrior!

Remember The Ultimate Warrior? Man, he was awesome, wasn’t he? Unfortunately, he is not in this game, but you can become an ultimate warrior here. You get to create your character and you can pick up some awesome gear on your journey. The combat is all handled in real time and it is not just hack and slash stuff here. There is a real level of depth to the combat, but not so much that it becomes frustrating. It is all about getting into a groove of using the didge mechanics and striking when the time is right.

Pros:

• I love the world that they have created here
• The way you can interfere with other player's games is fun
• The combat system here is fun and challenging
• The visuals are awesome, especially the monster designs

Cons:

• Another player can really ruin a run for you if they want
• I hope that the story is fleshed out as I love the premise of it
