I have to be honest with you guys, I came across Gord by complete accident when I was scouring Steam for upcoming releases. This is a strategy game with a fantasy type setting and it just has “something” about it that captured my attention and made me want to talk about it. Team17 are the ones who are publishing the game and they tend to have a good eye for interesting games so I think this could be a bit of a hidden gem for 2022 which is what I wanted to take a closer look at it today.

The Tribe Of The Dawn

The premise of Gord is that you are leading the people of The Tribe Of The Dawn. This is a dangerous fantasy type world with all kinds of nasty monsters and raiding bandits that are willing to do anything in order to survive, even if that means taking what you have worked hard to get. I like the idea of the game being based around Slavic mythology, mixed with some classic fantasy elements. There will be various things to find around the game world that will expand the lore.

People Equal Power

As you build your band of followers, you have to take care of them. Gord has a very interesting way of going about this. The people that follow you have their own lives and they need to be fed, be happy, feel safe, and have families. They also have a sanity and burden meter that you have to keep an eye on as if it goes too far, either way, they may freak out and run away.

From Humble Beginnings

When you start your journey in Gord, you will have a basic and very primitive place to call home. One of the main gameplay aspects of the game is building up your settlement into something that eventually resembles a fortress which will allow your settlement to grow in numbers and also offer more protection from the creatures that want to do you harm.

“AI Driven Quests”

One of the most interesting things in the gameplay department are the AI driven quests. While you have the main storyline to progress through, the game is packed with side quests that are given to you by various AIs that you come across. These guys will give you fun quests like tracking down a legendary monster or uncovering some kind of long-lost secret. I think this sounds very good and the kind of thing that is going to make the lore and story even more appealing.

There is just something about Gord that is really making this a game that I am getting more and more interested in the more they reveal about it. I love the fantasy setting and the whole lore that they are creating here with this game. There is also a great deal going on with the gameplay too from the fun combat, the city building, and the vast amount of side quests that there are for you to go on. There are many great games coming out in 2022, but this is one that I would probably class as a “hidden gem”.
