Jagged Alliance 3

I love strategy games, but Jagged Alliance 3 is “my” kind of strategy game. It is like an over the top 80s action movie and I could not be any more into what it is offering. I am a pretty big fan of the series; I was actually gifted the last game by a friend and I spent a ton of time with it. However, I think that with this game it is great in that it is going to be something those who have played the previous games can enjoy, but at the same time, it looks like it is also very welcoming for those new to the franchise.

The Right Mercenaries For The Job

The whole premise of Jagged Alliance 3 is something that I think is very cool. The nation of Grand Chien has been thrown into chaos. A rebel faction called The Legion has seized power and the president has gone missing. The president’s family has hired you to put together an elite group of mercenaries to find the president and get back control of the country. It is a very cool idea and totally the kind of plot that would have been in a Chick Norris movie back in the 80s! I love the whole style of the game as there are different types of areas ranging from a jungle, a base, a desert looking place, and more. It has that 80s action vibe down to a T when it comes to the presentation.

Have You Been Pushing Too Many Pencils?

An awesome little Predator reference there for you. Anyway, in Jagged Alliance 3, you have to find the best of the best when it comes to mercenaries. Each one that you come across will have their own set of skills, backstory, and personality and it is up to you to decide if they are the right fit for your team. You will get to explore the country, talk to people, finding new areas and of course making money. Money is what mercenaries are all about and the more money you make, the better mercenaries you can hire.

Lots Of Spinning Plates

There is actually a whole lot to try and focus on when it comes to the gameplay of Jagged Alliance 3. The combat is tactical and turn based, but you do also have to loot and salvage things so you can make new and better equipment, level up your characters, defend areas as well as attack and you can even control multiple parties at the same time. While the trailers make this look like it is all about action, there is a lot of thought that needs to go into what you are doing too. The previous games did a good job of teaching the player all they know and I have high hopes that this one will do the same.

Pros:

• I love the setting and the premise of the game
• I like how each Mercenary has their own personality and abilities
• The actual gameplay here is way deeper and more complicated than you would think
• While it is deep, the game also is trying to be as fun as possible

Cons:

• Some new players might be put off by the 3 in the title
• Keeping an eye on so many moving pieces might verge on becoming frustrating
