Songs Of Conquest scratches an itch that’s hard to satisfy as a gamer. If you really enjoy resource management and getting control of the most miniscule details in a game, you might just have found the right place. In this review, we’ll cover a lot of aspects of this title to help you decide if it’s worth your time to play!
The title features a large variety of maps to play in, giving you the chance to put on your smart glasses and begin showcasing your strategic mind. For a strategy game, it has enough features to satisfy both seasoned veterans of the genre and newer players looking to try something different.
The turn-based strategy game is one that provides a rich story-driven campaign that focuses on players collecting fragments of songs detailing their heroic exploits. The single player and multiplayer gameplay both have a lot of love put into the experience for any player that prefers one or the other to enjoy fully like they are getting a full value for their money. It provides an adventure similar to games like Sid Meier’s Civilization VI and Age of Empires IV.
Combat and building
As a turn-based title, Songs of Conquest has a limited number of moves per turn, encouraging players to properly strategize against opponents during encounters. The game builds on the combat and building elements usually found in the strategy game genre, but it also offers its own sprinkles of uniqueness around.
For example, the Wielders, the game’s hero units offer a great example of how Songs of Conquest subverts genre expectations, and brings its own spin to established concepts. Here, the game has Wielders harness their abilities directly from their troops with the help of a resource called the Essence. This makes the potency of their spells entirely dependents on the amount of units within their armies.
There are various forms of Essences that can be offered by troops. The different buildings in the game also produce different types of troops, giving you another layer of strategic gameplay to add to your thought process when engaging in combat.
Factions and Biomes
In Songs of Conquest, you’ll get to take control of a small kingdom that’s set in a war-torn world where the four factions are vying for power and dominance. Each faction has a unique aesthetic that gives them a notable appearance even from a distance. They each reside within their own biomes and command a range of enemy units.
The factions include:
- Rana: an ancient tribe that survives in the swaps
- Loth: necromancers raising the dead for a new future
- Barya: mercenaries and inventors dedicated to gunpowder and coin
- Arleon: knights battling each other for dominance
Songs of Conquest is an absolute blast to play. This is easily a game that I can see most gamers getting into without much of a fuss. The tutorial is satisfying and detailed enough to provide you with all the basic tips and steps needed to get started with your new adventure.
