Do not worry if you never played the first game, Heaven Dust 2 is intended as a standalone sequel so it is not necessary for you to have played the first game to get in on this. Even though they have not given us an actual release date for this game just yet. Currently, there is a demo that you can check out which I highly recommend that you do. This is a pretty stylish game that has a bit of old-school survival horror about it and that is something that is very appealing to me.
Time To Wake Up Steve
The story of the game takes place in a very strange place called The First Research Center. Heaven Dust 2 features a main character called Steve who has been awoken from his cryogenic pod.
The research center was hosting a press conference, but something went very wrong and now there are all kinds of monsters around and he needs to fight his way out if he wants to survive. There are two ways to escape this place and each one offers you a different ending.
Keys To Survival
There is quite a lot going on in this game. You play it from a kind of isometric point of view and we need to get Steve out of this place. While there is a lot of action in this game as zombies and other creatures need putting down. There is also a lot of puzzle solving as you go and figure out how to get items, what to do with them, and open up new areas, and so on.
Managing Your Way To Success
There are many different things that you can pick up in Heaven Dust 2. There is a great selection of weapons in the game and these can be upgraded by modifying them. Some later enemies and bosses will need to be taken on with more powerful weapons! You also need to find items that you use to solve puzzles with. These can sometimes need to be combined with other items before you use them. I like the way that they keep you on your toes and make you want to explore every area.
A nice little classic House of the Dead reference for you guys there! The visual style of Heaven Dust 2 is dark and moody as you would expect. I like the isometric style of the game as it does give it a bit of old school charm, but I get that this viewpoint can sometimes lead to a few issues. The game for the most part though looks great, I like the different types of zombies and monsters and there are some pretty great explosion and fire effects too. Even though the whole game is taking place in a research base, there is more variety to the way this place looks than you would think.
I will admit that I never played the first game, but Heaven Dust 2 is one of the games that I would describe as a bit of a hidden gem to be released in 2021. If you love survival horror style games then I think this one will tick a lot of the boxes for what you are looking for.
Remember, even though there is a 2 in the title, you do not need to have played the first game to get into this.
- I like the idea of having to escape from a research base
- Many different monsters for you to fight
- There are many puzzles for you to solve
- Two different endings give you a reason to play through the game again
- So far this is still listed as “coming soon”
- Some people struggle when a game has an isometric viewpoint
