Described as three stories in one big adventure, Last Stop is a game that I could not be any more excited about. It looks like it could be the most compelling narratively driven video game of the year and it is a game that has quite the pedigree behind it in terms of the developer, publisher, and the incredible British voice cast that they have managed to get together for the game.
Last Stop has three different stories and is kind of like an anthology thing where there is a connection to them. It is set in modern day London which is a pretty cool setting and it has a supernatural/sci-fi twist to it all that I think is just fantastic. The story is about three seemingly very different people who are connected via a strange going on.
There is Donna who is a high school student who has noticed some strange things going on and she and her friends find something weird happening with a neighbor and they end up playing detective and get pulled into something very different. John is a hardworking dad who ends up swapping bodies with Jack, his younger neighbor! Then we have Meena who is a badass and ends up working in a place that has something sinister happening underneath it.
Playing Around In The Third Person
As of me writing this, Last Stop has not actually revealed a great deal about the kind of gameplay we can expect. What we do know is that this is a 3rd person game and from the videos that have been released so far, it looks like it could have fixed camera angles and it will involve a few different gameplay styles, we have seen the John/Jack story and it does seem like there is a bit of sneaking around here.
The studio behind this is Variable State and the publisher is Annapurna Interactive and these folks are known for releasing games that are very story driven. I like the art direction here, it is not a super realistic kind of style, in many ways Last Stop in terms of the visuals, reminds me of the TellTale games or even the Life is Strange games. They have worked very hard to make London seem as real as possible and that is great. In terms of TV presentation, I get Stranger Things vibes from the way the story is unfolding here.
Listen Very Carefully
A big deal is being made about the sound in the game. They have gone above and beyond to have some of the best British voice talents in the industry to bring these characters to life. What we have seen so far is very impressive in terms of the voice acting. It also has a fantastic soundtrack that was put together by a Bafta winning composer so that is really cool.
If you like story-driven games then Last Stop is one that you simply have to consider adding to your collection. While it is the Steam version that I have been looking at, this is also going to be available on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch as well. This is one of those games where I think knowing as little about the story before you play is probably the best way to go.

- Will there be much replay value once you have beaten it?
