Today we are taking a look at Stellar Warfare which is a very cool looking RTS game that looks modern, but has a bit of an old-school soul. From what I understand this is a passion project of one main guy and they have been working on the game for over three years at this point. It is an early access release, but I am very much liking what I am seeing here and if sci-fi RTS games are your thing, you might want to take a closer look at it.
Staking Your Claim In Space
So far, from what I have seen there is not exactly a ton of story in Stellar Warfare. What it appears to be is a game where you are just trying to get by in the galaxy and you are willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen. I am sure when the game is nearing completing more fleshed-out story details will be revealed, but for now, things are a tad on the sparse side.
If You Build It, You Can Win
It is the whole building aspect of Stellar Warfare that has gotten me excited. You may start off small, but as you gather resources as you progress through the game, you can really expand. You can build things like power plants, artillery buildings, refineries, repair stations, badass turrets, and many more. Of course, as is the case with any RTS game, what you decide to focus on will depend on your play style.
Working In The Ship Yard
Shipbuilding is a very big part of what Stellar Warfare is all about. You can get new plans for ships as you progress through the game and there are a ton of options at your disposal here. You can decide to build a big hulking warship that can take a bunch of damage as well as dish it out. You also may want to make a more nimble and quick ship that can get in and get out before things get too crazy.
The combat looks to be all in real time and I love how the projectiles are physics based. You can play against other players, or you can just dig in deep and see how long you can last against the AI. Combat looks like it is going to be fun and deep, but not at the expense of having a huge barrier of entry.
Small Team, Big Dreams
For such a small development team, I was very impressed with the visuals. This is a full 3D game and you can battle in full 3D. the fact that this is just a small indie game makes the way the game looks even more impressive. I just hope that they have a good story to go along with these nice visuals by the time the game is released.
I love RTS games and I think that so far things are looking very good for Stellar Warfare. Hopefully, some of you guys by the time you are reading this will be able to play the final version of the game. I think what they are doing with the early access state of the game is fine and there will be more than enough here to keep you busy and entertained as you play.
- I love the space setting of the game
- You have many buildings that you can build
- I love how vast the shipbuilding aspect of the game is
- This is very impressive looking for an indie title
- So far there is not much story to the game at all
- I have no freaking idea when this is going to be actually released
