Hunt: Showdown - La Luz Mala

Welcome, once again, to Hunt: Showdown – La Luz Mala. The year is 1985 and there appears to be an infestation of monsters in the Louisiana Bayou that you and your fellow players are the only ones equipped to deal with. Fight through these wretched creatures and emerge victorious, either by yourself or as part of a bigger team. This game has some of the best multiplayer that I’ve ever experienced alongside some of the best graphics as well. If you are looking for a thinking mans first-person shooter, then this is the one you want to try your hand at. Let’s get into it.

Gameplay

The gameplay for this title is that of a first-person shooter action game. You will spend a significant amount of time walking around, searching, trying to find whatever creature is lurking in the swamps. There is an element to this game that is not dissimilar to the gameplay cycle in Monster Hunter: World. The moments before finding the monster were some of the most fun bits of the game. There is something so tense about creeping through the water or checking out buildings, just knowing the thing could be in there. A truly fun time, especially when played with friends.

The combat is punchy and fun, and you will find the encounters with the enemies go past faster than you think while you’re up to your knees in swamp water and sighting for your life. You will be utilizing period-inspired weapons like bolt action rifles, revolvers, and more. It handles like when you play through the first-person camera in Red Dead Redemption 2, and that is certainly not something to be mad about as it has got very satisfying gameplay.

Visuals

The visuals of Hunt: Showdown are absolutely spectacular. Each of the characters, their weapons, and the environments have been expertly crafted with care, and it shows in every step of the game. The many different hunters that you can play as and the many different outfits that they can have equipped are all lovingly rendered through this stunning game. The monster designs are utterly terrifying and they all have a unique look to them, at no point was I playing and the game took me out of it due to me recognizing a monster from somewhere else. There is clearly a creativity that has been properly fostered by the developers of this game.

Multiplayer

The multiplayer aspect of this title is fantastic. In few games have I had so much fun running around like a lunatic, trying desperately to fight some unholy monster. Sure, the game is spooky and that offers an amusing dynamic when playing with your friends, but the comedy potential here is absolutely everything to me and I’m sure that, if you’re playing with good friends, you’ll have a blast as well.

DLC

The La Luz Mala downloadable content brings in the legendary hunter Laz Mala. It allows you access to some impressive weapons from her personal armory, such as the Raíz Mala Revolver, Del Ojo Rifle, and the Premio del Tonto bomb. If you are loking to distinguish yourself against the other hunters, explore a fantastic character and her interesting lore, then this is the DLC to get.
