Prehistoric games have always been a popular way to look back on the history of life. Isles of Yore is a survival style game that allows you to choose a prehistoric animal you are passionate about to control, while also surviving in fierce jungle and other habitats. Isles of Yore is being completely developed by just one person, which explains why progress on developing it has been relatively slow.
At this point in Isles of Yore’s development, there hasn’t been a beta released that allows reviewers to play, but a release date for beta is imminent. What we have gotten are some video clips of the game being tested. In one of the newest clips, it shows a thick, lush forest with different types of trees and bushes opening out into a plain where triceratops are grazing.
Other clips show amazing graphics, with detail in lighting and backdrop especially well done. This game is dazzling, and though it’s only a glimpse, you can tell a lot of time and effort has been put into it.
The animations are equally well thought out, with small snips of animations being shown for dinosaurs in various postures including sitting, nesting, and sleeping. Many of the animations shown however, were slated to be reworked before being released. We can assume that this rework means the animations will be improved even more from the already amazing shots shown.
The developer has been working on AI for a variety of scenarios, including swimming and landing. According to their website, while the landing scenarios for flight work in carefully controlled situations, they haven’t been tested enough to know if they will work in every situation.
Even if these aren’t released in beta right away, the developer plans to have AI versions at least visible swimming offshore or flying above, so you can see their presence in the game.
Details like a smelling system that will help you detect food and water, as well as a nesting system to act as your spawn point, will help you navigate in the world. These are guaranteed adds to the game according to the developer. If you have ever played Beasts 9500, you can almost guarantee this game will be an improvement on that even in its rawest beta form. Isles of Yore already has better graphics, AI, and organization—and it hasn’t even been released yet.
The developer of Isles of Yore has set out to dazzle us with the trailers and clips that have been offered up so far. These glimpses don’t tell us everything about the game, and a true rating can’t be given until it is playable, but what we have seen is amazing.
Isles of Yore has spectacular animations, AI, and a set of interesting and realistic bars to make survival a challenge. If you are a prehistoric fan itching to test out your claws in the wild, Isles of Yore should definitely be saved on your future play list.
