The Kingdom Hearts franchise has been around for a long time, and it’s now a landmark in the CPG industry. Square Enix, the top name in the RPG industry, combines forces with Disney to make some of the best games in the genre. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix is the HD remake of one of the original classic games, and more titles, compiled into one amazing pack in beautiful HD.
This is a now-legendary game, and it marked the introduction of the keyblade-wielding character Sora, originally released for the PlayStation 2. Since the technology advanced a lot from the PS2 to the PS3.
About the game
There's a lot, and we really mean a lot, to talk about Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix, so to make things simpler, we won't get much into the actual story of the game, and we'll be talking more about what's up with the remake. We already know just how incredible the original titles are, how great these stories are no secret. Even the soundtracks are top-notch, combined with all your favorite characters from Disney and incredible world-building.
We don’t have to talk more about these titles, but instead, we can focus on the incredible challenge they had in front of them. Reading all the classic magic of the original titles into a more modern style game it’s really hard, and it can go wrong really easy, so, how did it go?.
Enjoy the HD in all its glory… kinda
The games included here are excellent, we can't complain much about them. But the job they did taking them to the PS3 and the new HD and format ratio, that we can complain. It's too simple and conforms to an adaptation of what we expected in the series.
There’s no job done to the textures, no upgrade in the character models, nothing went into the redesign. There isn’t even much effort put into the UI, as the text on the screen still looks as big and chunky as it did back in the day. And this also means that.
One positive thing about not upgrading the visuals is that the original engine in these titles was really solid. The character models still look nice, and the cartoonish style in the world design is excellent. Which is fortunate since they really didn't bother at all to upgrade them in any way.
Sure, it is now in a 16:9 aspect ratio, but since the texts are not upgraded there's not much use in the new visual aspect, and the UI is still big. And the HD is not full HD, it gets up to 720p, so it's not the best it could be.
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix is not much of a great HD remaster. What it is great for, however, is as a collection piece. It gathers great titles and makes them available for a new audience. And even the fans of the original will love them two. There's nothing inherently bad about this game, it just could be better.
- The original games are still incredible
- The 720p works nicely with the original engine
- The audio quality is great
- NIce new controllers
- It’s a basic HD upgrade
- Could have worked on the UI
- Chunky text
