LEAP is an online multiplayer FPS with a heavy emphasis on mobility that will have you dashing in style all over its futuristic battlefields. With the game’s unique approach to gameplay, matches in LEAP are like nothing you’ve ever seen in an FPS before, even if some of its functions might seem like the very definition of fashion over function.
Whether you jump, dash, roll, or fly to your objective, LEAP manages to keep things interesting at all times during its fast-paced matches. It’s hard to reinvent the wheel, but this game manages to take a genre that’s been stagnant for a long time and injects new life into it with its crazy stunts and satisfying gameplay.
Shoot in Style
As mentioned before, one of the things that separates LEAP from the rest of the first-person shooters out there is how fluid its movement feels. Unlike games like Call of Duty: Vanguard, where your loadout determines the skills available to you in a match, LEAP goes for the “classes” approach.
In this game’s case, classes are determined by the character’s exosuit. Each suit has a different set of mobility skills and also special attacks that could help turn the tide of battle in a pinch. Like Warframe, these suits can also be heavily modified by the player to grant new abilities: a feature that opens up a ton of possibilities for customization later on.
Each class also has a unique form of transportation that gives them an edge during encounters. Some classes jump higher than others, while some can deploy flying vehicles that help them scout the battlefield. You’ll need to learn how to make good use of these tactics if you hope to win: confrontations in LEAP are short and packed with action, so be sure to always shoot before your enemy.
Another great thing about LEAP is how closely it resembles a small-scale battle royale. Matches can have up to sixty players in total, which makes for some chaotic gameplay where bullets – and people – fly everywhere.
With its massive maps, players must learn how to effectively use the terrain to their advantage. Aided by their grappling hooks, snipers might seek out vantage points, while scouts move fast and shoot faster.
All of this amazing action is supported by the game’s spectacular visuals. Not only are the character models impressively detailed: the environments are also a marvel to look at. The solid map design also means that every encounter feels fresh, no matter how many matches you play on the same map.
Although LEAP’s setting and some of its character design might be lacking in terms of creativity, there’s no denying that the game is insanely fun. This is the perfect alternative to the stale FPS that appear on the market every other day. Its fast-paced action and fancy visuals are more than enough to attract any kind of player, and its solid progression system guarantees that they’ll be hooked for a long time.
LEAP is an immensely satisfying FPS that isn’t afraid of trying new things for the genre. Its unique mix of action and tactical shooter, along with its robust character progression system, results in one of the most entertaining online shooters you can play.
- Impressive visuals, especially in the environments
- Solid controls and intuitive movement mechanics
- Addictive gameplay and character progression system
- Some character designs may look somewhat bland
- The fast-paced action might take some time to get used to
