Fighting games like Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 try hard to simulate martial arts combat. The fact that they require memorization of strict motions and button strings makes them hard to get into. Lugaru takes away the pain of spending hours in a boring training room and puts you right at the action. Its intuitive combat system will allow you to have fun right out of the box. Coupled with its open-ended approach to strategy and you’ve got a recipe for an action-packed fighting game.
Here’s everything you need to know before you download Lugaru.
No Moves Barred
Lugaru’s main claim to fame lies in its incredibly approachable combat system. Compared to Guilty Gear Xrd Sign with its complex systems and bloated UI, Lugaru is extremely straightforward. You don’t need to spend hours building muscle memory thanks to the game’s contextual combat.
All of the moves are available as face buttons and all you need is a single press to bring the pain. Based on your distance from your opponents, the side from which you’re approaching and other factors, the game will register the move that fits the situation. It may sound button mashy but it’s far from it. You could be attacked from behind, for instance, but if you press the wrong button, your rabbit warrior won’t use the right move to counter it.
The enemies in Lugaru don’t like to play fair. You may be seeing a single opponent to square off against but they may just choose to call for backup instead. In this case, you’ll have to get ready for a crowd fight. But this is where Lugaru is truly awesome. These group fights end up looking and playing like a classic martial arts movie. Once you get into a rhythm and make the right move choices, you’ll be tossing, flipping and kicking enemies around like you’re Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan. Just pay attention cause some of your enemies in Lugaru may be armed, making them far more dangerous.
In Lugaru you take on the role of Turner, a rabbit whose village has been slaughtered. In his rage, he roams the land in search of the ones responsible. Your job is to guide Turner around the map, kicking tail wherever you go until the deed is done. The story also involves a deep-seated conspiracy of the rabbit lands republic and their neighbors, the wolves.
The Bottom Line
Lugaru doesn’t look as impressive as a game like Soul Calibur V. In fact, it looks downright ugly. But what it lacks in looks, it gains in fun-factor which is what gaming is all about.
If you’re tired of trying of fighting games that expect you to treat them like a second job, Lugaru will let you live your martial arts expert dream right off the bat.
