I love a good multiplayer game and Lumberhill is one of the craziest I have come across in quite some time. I have a feeling that this is going to be a game that takes YouTube and Twitch by storm once it catches on. It is the kind of game that is made to be played with other people. It does have a solo mode (which is fun) however, I feel that if you are looking at this as a potential purchase, you need to come into this with the idea of playing with your buddies.

Trees, Times & Flannel!

The “story” of the game is that we have a bunch of lumberjacks who are not your normal lumberjacks. If you look at the trailer, you will be able to tell right away that Lumberhill is a game that is not taking itself seriously at all! This game is crazy and the idea is that these lumberjacks are traveling all over the world and all through time trying to chop down wood, take care of animals, and just trying to get their work done.

Over... Chopped!

I think many people (myself included) when they first look at Lumberhill get real Overcooked vibes. Look, Overcooked is the go-to for any kind of multiplayer comparison these days I get that and I do not mean it as a negative. Actually, the almost top-down viewpoint is perfect for a game of this style.

Back In Time!

What really sets this game apart from all the rest is the various locations. You have your typical woodland and sunny type levels, but in Lumberhill, you have to go through all different time periods where you will encounter things like dinosaurs, pirates, and more craziness. It gives each area that you are in its own style and that helps keep things interesting and fun.

I Choppy, Choppy Your Tree, Tree!

That is a really obscure WWF reference and if you get it I salute you! Anyway, the gameplay has you playing as a lumberjack. You need to chop down trees and put animals back in their pens. That is the basics of what you will be doing and each area/level that you start will tell you what your objective is. The thing is, this is easier said than done. There will be all kinds of things that are trying to get in your way here.

There are dinosaurs, pirates, wildfires, meteor strikes, and more. It is like everything in the universe wants to stop you from completing your goal. In the opening levels, you can clearly see what and how you need to do it. However, as you progress, you have to start thinking outside of the box about how you will complete your objectives.

Different Ways To Play

There are different modes of play for you in Lumberhill. You have a solo mode where you play the levels, making your way through the game as you would expect. You can also team up with some friends either online or in local co-op as you work together to complete objectives. There is also a PVP mode where the whole aim of the mode is to screw over your friends and stop them from completing their objectives.

I love playing games with my buddies and my family and this game is just perfect for that. I love how crazy it all is and the whole lumberjack this is not something I am sure I have seen in a game before. Lumberhill is just all about fun and craziness, even when you are playing with your friends and working towards the same goal, you guys will be ready to kill each other!

  • Playing as a lumberjack is weird and fun
  • This game goes through time!
  • There are many different modes to play
  • While it is crazy and over the top, there is some strategy here too

  • I am sure it will end some friendships!
  • Might be a tad too manic for some people
