As its wacky title might imply, An Airport for Aliens Currently Run by Dogs is a game that’s definitely like no other. This comedic adventure will have players interacting with multiple stock photos of dogs in a surreal airport setting, filled to the brim with an odd sense of humor.

As curious as it looks, there’s surprisingly very little gameplay to be found here. Beyond the game’s quirky exterior lies a shallow, almost demo-like experience that can hardly be categorized as a complete game. The dogs, however, are extremely adorable.

An Airport at the Ends of the World

In this game, you play as one of the only two human beings left in the universe. The other one is your fiancée, who’s currently away and keeping your relationship at a long distance.

It’s difficult to explain what the game is truly about. At its core, your main objective will be to reunite with your lover. That said, dogs aren’t great at running airports, and you will have to navigate a universe of airports to reach your beloved. Each airport operates differently, with multiple timetables and cancellations to consider.

To navigate the airports you’ll need to interact with the dogs. Well, they’re technically just stock photos, but they’re considered to be normal dogs in the game’s universe. This isn’t a “common” weird game in the same vein as Deadly Premonition or D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die: this is a bizarre trip to the ends of the universe.

Explore and Interact

The interstellar airports you can visit hold many secrets to discover, most of which come in the form of “puzzles” that the player will have to decipher. However, that’s where things get even weirder, as some of these puzzles hold no relevance to the plot or the gameplay at all.

In another display of this game’s bizarre sense of humor, dogs sometimes speak and write in an alien language that players can decipher. Once you manage to crack the code, you’ll be rewarded with even more “funny” jokes to spice up your airport experience.

Other than that, there’s a spray can to paint whatever wall or object that catches your eye. Just like with many other things in this game, this serves no visible practical purposes, but at least it lets you interact with the world a bit further.

While the gameplay is certainly kept to a minimum, the exploration in this game can be surprisingly rewarding. The strange locations you visit are all very visually distinct, with tons of fascinating oddities to capture your attention.

The most divisive aspect of the game is undoubtedly its random humor. While some players will find it entertaining, it’s clear that this style of comedy isn’t for everyone. The sheer weirdness of the title alone can be enough of a red flag for some players, and whether you like the humor or not will dictate how much you’ll end up liking the game.

Despite its weirdness, it’s clear that this game was made by someone who had a clear idea of what they wanted to see in a video game. And as weird as it might be, it’s unquestionably a unique experience.
