Dorfromanik is a relaxing strategy game where you place tiles to build up a beautiful rural world. If you're looking for a chill game to play after a long day to wind down, then you've come to the right place. Let me tell you a bit more about what you can expect from this fantastic game that was released just this year in 2021.
A virtual board game
In Dorfromantik, you start with a single tile and place more tiles around it to expand your world into the surrounding space. The gameplay is very similar to what you see in Carcassonne – Tiles & Tactics, but in Dorfromantik you play by yourself and don’t have to worry about other players invading your space like in Carcassonne. The board-game-like tiles in the game are also all procedurally generated, meaning the features on them are all random. Forests, houses, rivers, and roads are just some of the things you can expect to find on them.
The ultimate goal
Placing your tiles strategically and building up your landscape in a structured manner is important as this is the best way to earn points and gain more tiles. The game ends when you run out of tiles so try and build up your world in the best way possible! For example, placing forests next to other forests will gain you lots of new tiles, and the same goes for things like villages and roads. If you play the game well, you’ll eventually have a huge world full of networks of rivers and roads surrounding vast towns and forests.
To keep things interesting, Dorfromantik introduces special tiles throughout the game that have certain quests associated with them. When you complete these quests, you gain a bunch of extra tiles, so they're definitely worth doing. Some examples of quests include surrounding a windmill tile entirely with grain fields or extending a railway track to cover a certain distance.
The further you get in the game, the more quests you unlock, so build up your world to the best of your ability and see where your adventure takes you. You'll even start to discover new biomes as you progress, too!
Dorfromantik is an excellent indie game expertly crafted from a relatively simple concept. It’s clever, relaxing, and so much more fun than I initially imagined, and I’d highly recommend everyone check it out. If you’re a fan of puzzle games that put no pressure on you at all and let you go at your own pace, then be sure to download Dorfromantik.
- Beautiful graphics and rural scenery
- No-pressure gameplay that’s super enjoyable
- The game is very replayable seeing as all the tiles are procedurally generated
- There’s a tile assist feature that marks out every possible place for you to put your current tile, which is super useful
- No multiplayer option
- Lacks a lot of features that other world-building simulation games have, though this doesn’t really matter a lot seeing as the simple gameplay is still fun
- The lack of an undo button can make it frustrating when you accidentally misplace a tile somewhere
- PC compatible
- Operating systems: Windows 10/Windows 8/Windows 7/2000/Vista/WinXP
