Mechabellum is an exciting, fast paced mech battling simulation that puts you in charge of an army of various kinds of mechs. As the commander, you will be organizing their movements and sending them into battle. Although the game doesn’t release until May, early access has been going for a while to rave reviews. Most new players report that although the game may look average in the trailer, its gameplay far exceeds its appearance. Here’s what we know.
Graphics are Amazing
What ever is bothering players about the game, graphics aren’t one of those problems. The graphics in this game are very good, and on top of being crystal clear with smooth animation, they also add sheer scale on as power. One of the most jaw dropping parts of the game is when Vulcans are deployed. These huge mechs not only look great by themselves but are so big compared to the other devices you can put on the field it is truly shocking.
Multiplayer
In this game you can play against others, taking turns on the battlefield. The game gives you options to deploy mechs, upgrade if available, and more during your turn. Players must anticipate the moves of the other players and decide where to bolster defense or where to place mechs to hopefully get them to attack a weak point. This is an auto-battler, so although you will do all the deploying and upgrading, the mechs will decide where to head and what to fight. The game works very similarly to StarCraft II: Direct Strike. You position mechs based on their skills and then watch the battle unfold.
Single Person Available
Despite being mainly multiplayer, the game does offer a single player mode. Single player is a person against bots, so while it still takes the form of a multiplayer game, its AI you are playing against instead of a real person. There are also two additional modes available, survival mode and challenge mode. Not much is known about these additional modes at this time.
Endless Gameplay
One of the most valuable aspects of this game is how entertaining it is. Many players report racking up hundreds of hours of gameplay and still continuing to enjoy the game. The game isn’t even released yet, but there are already tournaments being held. With such a lively community, this game is likely to thrive and be enjoyable for many years to come.
This game may not look amazing based on the trailer, but per the many players who have ignored it and tried the game, it is a truly fun mech battler. If you enjoy mech battles, PvP, or simply watching mechs completely annihilate each other, this is the game for you.
If you don’t love autobattlers or are concerned about gameplay, give this game a try anyway. It hasn’t taken off in the English speaking community as much as in other parts of the world, but not through any fault of the game.
Pros:
- Amazing graphics and animations
- Endless replay value
- Active community
Cons:
- Autobattle only
