Like the rest of the series before it, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D gives gamers some of the best stealth gameplay in the business, with fun bonuses that are exclusive to this remake.

Main Game Features

  • Realistic third-person stealth gameplay
  • Use camouflage to outwit your enemies
  • New gadgets and combat options

Story

Set over 40 years before the events of the first Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D takes place in 1964 and follows the talented CIA agent codenamed Naked Snake. Sent to the USSR on a secret mission, Snake is tasked with rescuing Sokolov, an allied weapons designer and scientist. However, when the mission goes array and a terrible event occurs, Snake must prove his country's innocence by infiltrating a secret military base and destroying their munitions. Much like in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D has lots of twists and turns, including betrayals and backstabs that you'll never see coming.

That said, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D has a dense narrative with lots of characters, concepts, and historical data. Players are expected to have a decent understanding of geopolitical ideas and existing relationships between countries during the 1960s, layered with some wild ideas and futuristic themes. There's a lot of dialogue, espionage, and hidden information, which might leave impatient players frustrated. However, if you're willing to put in the effort and understand the narrative, you'll find that it's well worth the time and energy.

Gameplay

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D offers many of the same stealth mechanics seen in games like Splinter Cell and Hitman, but with an added level of realism and player control. Plus, this updated version of the game has some appreciated changes, including better weapon accuracy and improved graphics. Played from a third-person perspective, this stealthy adventure has you sneaking through a variety of areas, including complex military facilities, a dense forest, and more. One of the biggest changes to the series formula is the introduction of camouflage, which must be used intelligently to sneak past opponents. There is a helpful bar that helps you identify when you are properly hidden, but you'll need to choose the right camouflage pattern depending on your environment.

Several other aspects of gameplay have been updated or refined, including hand-to-hand combat. Snake can now grapple his opponents, choosing to take them down, interrogate them for information, and more. Better attention must be paid to Snake's vital signs now, as injuries can occur across his body and must be treated appropriately. Additionally, there is a new stamina bar that tracks how much energy you have, so you'll need to eat regularly and save your stamina for important moments. Overall, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is challenging, but will reward players who take their time and think through their strategy.

Conclusion

It's no secret that stealth gamers love Metal Gear Solid, so it's a good thing that Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is a fantastic remake. The graphics are better than ever before, which makes the story and cutscenes more effective and adds heightened suspense to the gameplay. New gameplay options like camouflage and close-quarters combat offer more control during tense moments, ensuring you can always sneak away if you're smart enough.
