Outriders: Worldslayer is a third-person action RPG shooter from People Can Fly, which is a studio with experience surrounding shooters. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Outriders features gameplay elements you don’t typically see in FPS games—such as melee combat and a unique art style.
In the Future Things Are Grim
The game takes place in an alternate reality where Earth has been destroyed by an alien race called The Elders. After years of hiding underground with humans as slaves, they are starting to rebel against their masters. You play as one of these rebels (the Outriders) who must fight back against The Elder forces while also trying to find a new home for humanity.
The game has a total of four playable classes. They are the Pyromancer, Devastator, Trickster, and Technomancer; these are all part of the Outriders class. Each one of them has five different sub-classes that players can focus on. All of them have unique abilities/skills that can be upgraded through leveling up or getting them from items throughout gameplay, such as doing quests.
Evolve Into Your Role
As soon as you enter the game you’ll soon understand that each class has a particular role to play during raids. Pyromancer
They're good at taking damage, dishing it out, and debuffing enemies. They also have crowd control skills that can keep your party safe in a fight. If you're looking for a generalist character who can fill several roles during battle, the Pyromancer is probably what's best suited to your play style.
Devastator
As the tanks of Outriders, Devastators have a lot going on. They can use their shield to block incoming attacks, knock enemies back with a shield bash and even throw their shields at them. Trickster
As the Trickster, you have one thing on your mind: time. You use a device that allows you to slow down time and stop it altogether, as well as create clones of yourself to confuse your enemies. You can also use this device to heal or buff allies, teleport around the battlefield, evade attacks, and attack enemies yourself.
Technomancer
The Technomancer is a ranged class with a wide variety of status effects, healing abilities, and crowd control skills. The Technomancer is great for new players because they have access to the most basic attacks right away.
Conclusion
The game itself does not have much variation with its gameplay because it is basically just killing hordes of enemies over and over. It truly struggles to differentiate itself from other games like Destiny. The co-op quests are also highly dependent on teammates and can take days if not hours depending on the difficulty level you choose before starting your next mission.
In theory, the game has everything it needs to succeed, but it lacks that “wow factor” that keeps players amazed and engaged. Games as a service, in general, have been disappointing fans regularly, and with a title like Destiny which is so similar, Outriders needed a lot more to compete. On top of that, the game fails miserably to provide a good solo experience, making it a requirement for you to have friends to play co-op and enjoy the game.
If you liked the Destiny franchise, Anthem, Borderlands 3, Tom Clancy's The Division or Warframe, you are much better suited to playing those.
