With a name like Sniper Elite 5, you’re probably going to have an idea of what this game entails. However, in terms of actual gameplay, you’re in for a ride that totally blows all your expectations out of the water.
Story and Setting
The 5th installment in the Sniper Elite series, Sniper Elite 5 is a game that takes the stakes to a whole new level, giving players a Sniper Elite game that truly feels like an adventure. Sniper Elite 5 is able to connect with players through the recreation of real world locations. This is done through the use of photogrammetry technology, making the world feel like a living and immersive place with much to see and do for players. You’ve got a lot of missions to engage in, and this time around they feel diverse and crafted with a specific intention behind it.
One of the reasons why Sniper Elite 5 feels so great is the setting. Situated in France, 1944, you’re being placed in the heart of World War 2 and these are perhaps the biggest and scariest stakes of a Sniper Elite game so far. Engaging in Operation Kraken as a member of the covert US Rangers group, you’re going to be the one to make a difference on the results of this war.
If you’re a fan of customization, even Sniper Elite 5 will put you through the ringer. There is a lot, and we can’t stress this enough: a lot that is provided in this game. You’re given the opportunity to change your stock, barrel options, the tuning of your weapon, look, grip and other peripherals within your weapons. By doing this, you’ll quickly find that Sniper Elite 5 is much more immersive than it seems at the surface. A good amount of time can be spent tuning your weapons, and it is always satisfying to construct a gun that is capable of some amazing feats.
Game modes also sweeten the experience in this game, giving you a chance to test your skills against other players in PvP. You’re placed in maps and given a stretch of time to out-snipe each other and see who comes out on top. Alternatively, the co-op mode could also be your poison, choosing to hop into an experience that aligns you with a second sniper that can help you through tricky situations. Co-op mode allows you to team up with up to 3 other players in a deadly game of survival.
An iconic part of the Sniper Elite games, the enhanced kill cam is present in this one, giving you a visually stunning close-up of your kills in a dramatic slow motion effect. If you’re a fan of games like Call of Duty: Vanguard and Battlefield 2042, this game should pique your interest.
Sniper Elite 5 is a welcomed addition to the franchise. Fans and new players alike will have a good time hopping into the game for some smooth kills.

Wind gently blows over some tall grass. Nazi soldiers patrol a compound in the distance as heavy machinery loudly clanks to life periodically. In the tall grass, a clicking noise is heard, and a muzzle slowly breaks cover. An inhale of breath, a mechanical clank, and a masked shot from a rifle travels through the air and into the skull of an unsuspecting enemy soldier. This is Sniper Elite 5, the latest stealth-action game from British game development studio Rebellion. In this new adventure, Karl Fairburne is in yet another exotic locale hunting down a war-mongering villain behind an unspeakable plan. If thrilling sniper gameplay is something you seek, then here is everything you need to know about Sniper Elite 5.
An Even Better Kill Cam
The staple of the Sniper Elite experience, something that other sniper games like Sniper: Ghost Warrior can’t compete with, is the advanced kill cam. Sniper Elite 5 prides itself on its most complex kill cam system yet, with even more x-ray detail in slow motion, and a new ricochet mechanic that causes projectiles to bounce off of bone inside the body. Also new to Sniper Elite 5 are new ways to trigger the kill cam. Both pistols and SMGs can now activate the intense slow-motion cinematic to show what the human body looks like when it is penetrated by a hail of bullets.
Sniper Elite 5 takes place mostly in World War II-era France. The developers went to great lengths to study locations, architecture, and the environment in order to faithfully recreate every location you visit in the game. They even went as far as to use professional photogrammetry to ensure every level is as lifelike as possible. And what a good job they did. Every level in Sniper Elite 5 is a massive sandbox where you can experiment and play around to find the best and most efficient way to complete objectives. There are always multiple infiltrations and exfiltration points, so you never have to have the same experience twice.
New Ways to Traverse
The previous Sniper Elite game made great strides towards making Karl Fairburne a more limber soldier. Sniper Elite 5 goes several steps farther and introduces a slew of new movement options. You are now able to slide down embankments and steep walls, make use of zip lines scattered through each level and climb as well as shimmy along edges to reach new sniper perches.
All of these options are presented organically as you progress through missions, so you are free to use or not use certain options depending on your own personal playstyle.
