GTA Amritsar

GTA Amritsar is a unique mod that changes the skin, music, and some language options of a game. Over the past few weeks, the mod has surged in popularity in India, probably due to the Hindi language options. Although the mod isn’t as refined as some of the other options can be, it still does a great job in adding to the game.

As you may have guessed from the name, GTA Amritsar is a mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. GTA has an active modding community that is constantly working to improve the game, and GTA Amritsar is one such mod.

Not the best graphics

The mod changes GTA: San Andreas into the city of Amritsar, and adds details in the skins and other changes unique to India. It is immediately clear that this was a labor of love from the modding community.

Although the graphics added need work, they don’t detract from the popularity of the game. The skins give the characters Indian clothing and style, and the city is changed to look more like Amritsar. Although the graphics are low quality, they do a good job of transforming the map into a recognizable location.

The mod also includes changes for a few of the cars. The game has a generous number of types of vehicles, ranging from helicopters and planes to rusty trucks.

Indian Music

The game also plays Indian music on the loading screen. The music adds a nice touch to the overall theme. The music is a little more refined than the graphics and is reasonably enjoyable to listen to. This unique change in music adds to the authenticity of the Amritsar theme.

Some Hindi additions

Although not widespread throughout the game, Hindi translations are available in specific dialogue sections throughout the game. This may make gameplay somewhat easier for Indian players. The Hindi sections help make the game keep to the Amritsar theme as well. It’s important to note the game is not fully in Hindi, but just certain sections the modding community created.

Not an actual game

GTA: Amritsar is not a standalone game. It is a mod for an original game. In order to play GTA Amritsar you will need to have GTA: San Andreas downloaded, and then add the mod directly to the game files. If you are familiar with mods at all, you should have no trouble doing it.

If you’ve ever played a similar mod, GTA: Punjab, you can expect a similar idea. The graphics and location are different, but the core game idea is the same.
