Pelagos: Rise of Greece is a city-building game that also has RTS elements too. As someone who loves strategy games and games where I can run a city and help a civilization rise, this is one that I have had my eye on for quite some time if you enjoy a good strategy game that has a bit of an old-school vibe about the gameplay then this is a game that I highly recommend you take a closer look at.
Ambition And Tragedy
One of the things that has really got me interested in this game is the story that the campaign has. Pelagos: Rise of Greece takes place in ancient Greece and you have been chosen to lead a group of people to start a new colony in a land far away. There is a horrible storm that puts a dent in these plans.
You end up shipwrecked and most of the people on board are dead! Leaving you to try and build this new civilization and make sure that your people flourish. Oh, things are complicated by the word of the invading Persian army! It is pretty awesome stuff and if you have an interest in ancient history, I am sure that you will get a real kick out of it all.
It Wasn’t Built In A Day
The gameplay of Pelagos: Rise of Greece has a real 90s kind of thing going on and that is something I liked as I played games this back then. You will need to build various buildings, gather resources, and make sure that your people are well-fed, happy, and productive. There is a lot of work to do in order to make sure that you not only survive, but flourish, but with the right attitude, it can be done.
While the city-building aspect of the game is what appeals to me the most there are some other neat things going on here. To start with there is a day and night cycle which will come into play during gameplay. Also, the battles as you fight off the Persians have an RTS thing going on. You will have to fortify your homes and make sure you have the right people in the right places when a battle takes place. As well as land battles, battles on the water are also part of the gameplay.
I See Fields Of Green
I like how for the gameplay they have tried to give the game a bit of a retro feel. However, in terms of the visuals, Pelagos: Rise of Greece is a very nice-looking game that has some fantastic graphics. I love how good areas that have a lot of green look and the oceans have waves that are very well animated. The whole game has a lot of polish to the visuals and I like this as it lets you see the smaller, finer details. I also like it because it gets you much more attached to your home and your people.
If you are someone who enjoys strategy games, especially those from the 90s, I am sure that Pelagos: Rise of Greece is the kind of game that is ideal for you. I like how straightforward the gameplay appears to be. Sure, you can get really in-depth with the construction and running of your settlement, but there is not this huge barrier of entry that many modern strategy games have.
- I love the premise of the campaign
- The gameplay has a real retro vibe going on
- I am very, very impressed with the visuals
- The game is more about fun than requiring the player to be the smartest person around!
- There is no multiplayer at all here
- You do need to have a passing interest at least in ancient Greece
