Rog & Roll is a fun platformer style game that is heavily inspired by its predecessors. It deliver all the elements elements you would expect, but there aren’t many fresh takes around them. The game is very light and fluid, and it does have some gameplay that perfectly align with that goal. While the simplified and straightforward title may turn off some newer players who don't enjoy the classic aesthetics it will certainly please older players.

The side-scrolling element has that classic arcade feeling to it, and the commands are easy to understand. Rog & Roll is a family-friendly title that can easily be played by anyone. It has a very cartoonish and child-friendly design that mixes the 2.5D elements with some 3D to create its atmosphere. While it tries to create a new take or showcase a new perspective on classic platformers, it doesn’t really escape the tried and true formula.

In this game, you take the role of Rog, a tiny monster that has the complex job of rescuing his fellow companions. Once upon a time, these little evil monsters were all controlled by evil bosses that forced them to kidnap royalty and terrorize humanity. However, the monsters from your world, Rog’s world, had a different idea and wanted to pursue a different system and society amongst them. One where all tiny monsters could live happily in peace, whoever they were. Rog & Roll's gameplay is fast-paced, but its combat isn't very creative. It has a big diversity of level designs that encompass futuristic cities and haunted ruins. They all feel unique, thanks to their own unique gimmicks and distinct soundtracks. Players can expect to battle various monsters. Small monsters, mini-bosses, actual bosses, and everything in between.

The game has challenges and hidden items that can be found and used during your journey. You will also find friendly faces that will help you explore the maps in their entirety. There are towns, shops, and characters that help you shape your journey in your own unique way.

Conclusion

Rog & Roll is a fun platformer game that, unfortunately, suffers from a few frustrations. The biggest thing here is that it fails to separate itself from very similar titles.
