Russian Subway Dogs

Just one more go is what I kept saying as I played Russian Subway Dogs! This is a fun score chasing game where you get to play as a dog trying to eat. As a huge dog lover, I always have a soft spot for a game that features dogs. Add to that some fiendish classic arcade action and you have one of the most addictive games I have played in quite some time.

Scare The People, Get The Food, Simples!

The game is based around the fact that there are a bunch of dogs that have made their home in the Russian subway system, hence the name of the game, Russian Subway Dogs. You play as a dog who wants to eat, but you are also there to do the bidding of this very stereotypical Russian cat who is like a commander.

It is all done in a fun, tongue in cheek way, and the fact that this game lets you play as the “This Is Fine” dog, as well as other classic internet dogs that you may know and love is awesome.

Juggling The High Score

The gameplay of Russian Subway Dogs is the kind of thing that on paper looks very simple. You control your dog and you need to get behind the people to bark so that they get scared and drop food. You need to eat food to keep the meter at the bottom of the screen filled up, if it gets emptied then you fail, if you do not get the right score, you fail. At first, it is quite simple, but soon you will realize that you cannot get the score required! This is because you have to juggle the food, the more you juggle the food, the higher the score and the multiplayer will be. It is quite challenging, but there is something very old school and appealing about it.

Slamming Against The Wall

Make no mistake about it, Russian Subway Dogs is a very challenging game. As well as getting a high score to clear each level, you also have various objectives that the cat wants you to do. For example, one might be to eat at least 6 chocolate bars or getting a certain number of vodka juggles. You also have to keep collecting bones to unlock levels as you go. This led to me having to farm bones on easier levels! Also, it can be hard enough to get a high score, but when you add these objectives into the mix, it can get pretty brutal. It sometimes edges on being more frustrating than fun, to be honest with you. The game will also add in enemies to the mix as you progress too such as a bear.

Pixel Perfection

I have to say that Russian Subway Dogs is one of the most charming pixel art games I have played. This is a fantastic looking game that looks like a basic pixel art style of game at first, but it has a ton of personality. From the bears, elk, and Russian pedestrians that also call this place home to the fantastic guest characters, you have a game that is a lot of fun to look at.

Pros:

• Some of the objectives are very tough
• It can get rather frustrating in places
