3 Reasons Why You Should Play Sakura Swim Club
Steam has been around for almost two decades now but it only started heavily getting into the visual novel scene around five years ago. Winged Cloud, the developer behind the popular Sakura Spirit title, has more than a handful of their now-popular Sakura-themed titles on Steam. Out of all the visual novels titles from Winged Cloud, one of their earlier titles, released in 2015, still stands as one of the best in their library: Sakura Swim Club.
Sakura Swim Club Has Eye-Catching Artwork
The artist, known as Wanaca91 on Twitter and Deviantart, has a certain eye-catching art style she brings into the Sakura series as a digital artist for Winged Cloud. The artwork is arguably one of the best of the series. In fact, the artwork is the reason why many choose Sakura Swim Club as their first game in the Sakura series. The uncensored scenes, not found in the Steam version of the game, unfortunately, are also beautifully drawn.
Sakura Swim Club Has An Interesting Plot
You’re not in a fantasy world full of swords, foxes, and sexy women. It may seem like just another run-of-the-mill visual novel where an average high school guy bumps into a beautiful girl but it does try to deviate from the norm a bit. Instead of just being an average guy who immediately has a horde of women fawn over him, Sakura Swim Club only has two female leads who the main character, Kaede, must help. The plot revolves around Kaede helping these two girls conquer their fear of swimming. One of the girls even has a traumatic past where she is afraid to swim because of a drowning involving her that was a complete accident. Unlike other titles in the Sakura series, you’re fleshing out the characters and their backstories instead of just having non-stop fanservice dialogue. It’s a great visual novel to read for those who are tired of the same old boring simplistic plots.
Sakura Swim Club Has Immersive Music
Creating music for a visual novel isn’t an easy feat. People are very critical about the music that accompanies a visual novel. If there aren’t nice instrumentals, a change of tone during certain scenes, or music that matches at all, then it can really affect the immersion into the visual novel’s story.
REN from the circle Bastat Tail is behind the music for Sakura Swim Club (and other Sakura titles). The music does not disappoint as the soundtrack for Sakura Swim Club has positive reviews across multiple platforms such as YouTube. The music in Sakura Swim Club really brings you into the game as you’re playing your typical anime protagonist trying to navigate in the shadows of his great father.
A combination of excellent voice acting, cute fanservice visuals from a talented artist, immersive music, and an above-average plot is more than enough to have Sakura Swim Club be your favorite visual novel to date. It might not be Winged Cloud’s newest release in its Sakura series, but there’s a reason why it’s featured as one of their best on Steam.
