Secret House

Secret House is a low budget, indie horror escape room style of game. Look, you can tell from just one screenshot what this thing is all about! I am pretty sure this is a game that is made by one person so I give them a ton of respect for being able to actually make a full game. I love horror so I am always willing to give a new horror game a try and from what I can tell there is not a great deal of information out there about this game so I thought I would share my honest thoughts on my experience with it.

Gotta Get Out Of This House

The story in Secret House is that we are trapped in this very creepy looking house, there are monsters lurking inside and we need to escape. There is not much in the way of storytelling in the game or anything like that, but to be real with you, I am ok with it. I like the idea of waking up in this horror house, having no clue why we are really there, and then just having to survive and escape! Could they have done more to add bits of lore here and there? I guess they could, but the premise of just having to escape is one that I do like.

A Feeling Of Familiarity

As I was playing the game, especially the first ten to fifteen minutes, I had a real sense of Deja Vue. I could not put my finger on it, but I felt like I had seen this before, and then it hit me. Secret House is Resident Evil VII! Not in terms of the story or stuff like that, but the actually house. The layout here is very, very similar to the house from Resident Evil VII which I thought was rather interesting, it is almost like they took the exact layout and popped it in here. To be fair, in Resident Evil VII, this is a really well designed layout for a creepy house and I guess I would have to say that it does work pretty well here too.

Skating Creatures Want You Dead!

What you have to do in the game is find items that will help you escape and then get out of the house. Secret House has a randomized nature to where items will be located so this does give the game some replay value. As the game goes on, more and more monsters will start to appear and hunt you down. At first, they can look rather scary and intimidating, but they move like they are on roller skates and then they become more amusing, but they are also quite frustrating as the AI is kind of dumb, but they always end up in the way. The game at least does keep you on the right track by telling you what your objectives are so at least it is not a where the hell am I supposed to go kind of game!

Pros:

• I like the idea of being stuck in a house
• The monsters when they are still look cool
• It can be tense on some occasions
• There is a random nature to the game with item placement

Cons:

• The enemy animations are more funny than bad
• I am sure the house layout is a rip off from Resident Evil VII!
