Today we are checking out Space Mechanic Simulator which is an awesome looking space sim that is due for release later this year. There was a prologue that was released on Steam for free to hype this up and kind of serve as a demo and that got me very excited about the full game. As of right now it is still just listed as coming out in 2022, but with no specific date. Still, I thought we could have some fun today by looking at some of the features which make this seem like such an exciting game.

Working For The Man…. In Space

There is a campaign in Space Mechanic Simulator where we play as a space mechanic and we are given more and more complex tasks from mission control. While you will be fixing space shuttles and stations above the surface of Earth. You will also have to fix things that are in the orbit of the moon and Mars as well. You can even go to the surface thanks to your rover and repair various things that are on the surface.

It Is Floaty Light

The gameplay of Space Mechanic Simulator is something that has a bit of a formula to it, but it is something that is more puzzle based than anything else if you ask me. You will be given a task by mission control that will tell you something is wrong with a shuttle or a space station. You then use your scanner to locate the fault, head over to it and then you can get to work on diagnosing the problem. Once you know what the broken component is, you can then get a new one and fix the problem. It is made more challenging by the floaty first person controls that make it seem like you are actually floating around in space.

Perfect For VR

I am very impressed with the visuals here. Looking down when you are above the Earth, moon, or Mars and being able to see them in all their glory is truly amazing stuff. With Space Mechanic Simulator they have managed to capture the barrenness of space, but at the same time make sure the stuff that is here is very pleasing to the eye. It is hard to explain, but if you play the prologue or check out some of the trailers for this, you will see what I mean. I do think that the style they have gone for with this game would have made it perfect for VR and that is something I hope they consider adding at a later date.

What we have here with Space Mechanic Simulator is a game that appeals to me perfectly. We have had a ton of “simulator” style games the last few years, but this one I think is a cut above the rest in terms of its presentation and scale for what it is going for. If you are interested in this then I highly recommend that you check out Space Mechanic Simulator: Prologue which serves as an awesome demo for this game. I am pretty sure most people who check that out will be interested in the full game.
