Tales of Graces f Remastered is the remastered version of the 12th game in the series. Many people are excited about this one as it sort of came out of leftfield that they decided to do this. If you are a fan of this series, you will already know what the deal with this long running JRPG series is all about. I have played many games in the series and I would argue that this one has one of the better stories in the franchise. This for sure is one of the best RPGS of 2025!

The Origins of This Remaster

One of the most interesting things about Tales of Graces f Remastered is where it came from. This was originally released on the Nintendo Wii all the way back in 2009, but only in Japan where it was a pretty decent hit. A year later, Bandai-Namco would release a better version on the PlayStation 3 and this version of the game would see a release in the West and I am pretty sure that it is the PlayStation 3 version of the game that serves as the bones for what has been done with this remaster.

As Good As I Remember?

When I played this on the PlayStation 3 during Christmas break of 2010, the story well and truly captivated me. Tales of Graces f Remastered is going to bring this epic story to a whole new generation and that is awesome. The basics are that we have three kids called, Asbel, Richard, and Sophie and on paper, these are quite different kids, but they make a promise to each other. A promise that when a power struggle happens in the land of Ephinea they are forced to come back together and realize. This is a great fantasy story with twists, turns, and a looming threat and it all centers around friendship and the relationships of the characters. It is honestly fantastic stuff and I have actually forgotten a great deal of the story so I am very excited to dive into this not remembering all the little details.

So This Was Originally A Wii Game?

I know what you may be thinking, how good can Tales of Graces f Remastered be if it was an RPG originally made for the freaking Nintendo Wii, but this is no “gimmick” game that revolved around waggle controls. This is a full JRPG experience. You have a large world to explore and the combat is some of the best the series has ever had thanks to the cool system where you have four characters in your battles, but the other three are controlled via AI, but you can tell the AI what you want it to focus on before a battle occurs. There are two skill systems and both offer a different way to play. You have the Assault Artes which is more about dishing out quick combos and is ideal if you do not want to be too hands on. The other style is the Burst Artes and this is more for those who want to actually be more hands on. The gameplay has a lot going on, but never so much that it is easy to get lost.

Making Great Even Greater

So what exactly does Tales of Graces f Remastered offer over the original Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 versions of the game? Well, to start with, the game has been given a nice coat of HD, maybe even 4K paint. It is not as detailed as a modern RPG of course, but the game still looks great and I like how nice and bright it all is, the cut scenes and character portraits in particular really benefit from this remaster. I also think the sound is much clearer as well which is a nice touch. There are many quality of life improvements in the game too. There is now frequent auto saving which if you played the original, you will be very thankful for as you could go a long time without being able to save in that game! You can tinker with the battle system to make it so battles are less frequent, you can easily see where you have to go and the game in general, is more refined and feels better to control. Also included is the Lineage and Legacies DLC which is more story that takes place six months after the end of the game.

Tales of Graces f Remastered is one of the most awesome remasters that are coming out in 2025. If you are a fan of the Tales series or JRPGs in general, this game is honestly a must play for you. The story is fantastic and I assure you that you will be very attached to a few of the characters that you meet on this journey. I never played the Wii version, but on the PS3, I thought that this was fantastic and this version is going to take an already good game and make it even better and give it some modern conveniences as well as the visual and sound upgrade. My final score is based on how excited I am to get my grubby hands on this early in 2025!
