The Forest of Drizzling Rain is a Japanese horror game made in pixel art. It surprisingly combines almost native graphics with scenes filled with violence and brutality. The project was introduced to a wide audience in November 2022. The game was developed by independent studio Vaka Game Magazine.

About the game

The project opens with sad events: the protagonist's parents tragically die. However, she did not manage to cope with her grief. Soon the girl finds a mysterious photo of her grandfather in the house, which is the start of a new investigation. The gameplay is based on exploring levels and solving puzzles. Each item discovered allows the investigation to be guided towards its goal. Most of the action is centred in a mysterious forest of drizzling rain. Some missions take place in a local museum.

The player has to go through the adventure mainly for the protagonist. Occasionally, some of the developers allow you to see reality through the eyes of other characters. The main antagonists are the spirits of the night forest. From them the heroine is protected only by a talisman stone. But after each attack, the stone is shattered, leaving her to rely on her logic, speed and combat skills.

Project details

The Forest of Drizzling Rain is exciting and engrossing from the very first minute. A similar spirit of adventure can be felt in another popular game, Hotel Anatolia. What are the main features of the project?

• Pixel graphics. Brings back pleasant thoughts of popular gaming projects of the 90s. The drawings are a little different from what we are used to: the characters are taller and more detailed
• World in 2D. The lack of volume does not spoil the game world in any way. On the contrary, bright, somewhat childlike locations starkly contrast with scenes that evoke horror
• Frightening moments. In a museum, the heroine will have to encounter signs of the presence of otherworldly forces. Bloody prints on the walls, things breaking for no obvious reason, strange noises - these are just a small part of the atmosphere. In the woods, the girl is being stalked steadily by a ghost who is abducting children. It might seem that, with such graphics, such things just aren't capable of frightening. In fact, the game copes with the build-up to the horror brilliantly
• Intrigue and mystery. The main purpose of the game is to unravel mysterious events. Everything once again revolves around a child kidnapper. The gamer needs to understand who and why has found peace after death, and has begun committing horrific crimes
