Looking for a very interesting anime-themed game to try out? Then you might want to take a look at The Idolmaster. Developed by Bandai Namco Games, this is a very interesting game that might certainly catch the eye of anime fans as well as those who like more abstract gaming options.
This game series has become quite an interesting starting place for people looking for anime gaming, and the release, The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage was quite a hit when it came out on PS4.
Rhythm mobile game with a unique style
In Japan, rhythm games – especially on mobile – are hugely popular. Throw in a popular IP like The Idolmaster, and you can see why this is so popular today. This game has quickly grown to be an interesting choice for anyone on the lookout for a rhythm game with lots of personality to it.
The game itself has become a popular choice for Japanese gamers, but the title has grown to be popular outside of Japan as well. The game is standard fare for a rhythm game, wrapped up in the interesting world of The Idolmaster. As such, it has a lot of enjoyment that you might enjoy taking part in, while it has enough songs to keep you coming back to try out the various song styles and options that it has.
You are ranked based on your success, with an SSS rank the highest you can get. This is naturally very hard to get, with the sheer pace of each song and the difficulty level skyrocketing as you move through the various levels. For those who enjoy a bit of fast-paced rhythm fun, though, is bound to be a lot of interesting features in The Idolmaster that capture your attention.
Rhythm gaming at its most modern (7/10)
However, while there is much to enjoy about this iteration of The Idolmaster, there are some issues. For one, performance issues can be commonplace in some settings, and others have found that the difficulty spikes are needlessly high. If you find it hard to get into this game early on, you are unlikely to enjoy the challenges which are set to come in the higher levels.
Really, most rhythm games tend to be pretty simple when it comes to their play style. Given this carries an anime theme, though, the general mood and overall pace of the game can be such that it can be tough to properly follow along with what is happening.
For most people, The Idolmaster is an interesting rhythm game with a difficult spike beyond what they enjoy. For those with a love of anime and rhythm games, though, this may just pose enough challenge to keep you coming back.
Pros:
- Interesting presentation style that captures The Idolmaster perfectly.
- Huge collection of songs that you can choose to play with.
Cons:
- Presentation, while excellent, will be off-putting to non anime/manga fans.
- Difficulty spikes can make it tough for casual games to enjoy themselves.
