The Sims 4: Island Living

The Sims 4 Island Living adds to our belief that there will be an expansion title for just about every lifestyle subculture out there. This time we're heading to a tropical island where our character inventions are sick of the suburbs and setting up a new life in the sun. So what treasures will this add to the famed life simulator unlock?

The recurring releases of expansions to the base game seem like a money grab, considering there are a fair few that haven't been particularly good. That said, there have been a couple of decent additions that spice up gameplay and add a few more hours of interest. So is The Sims 4 Island Living going to add a new edge to the game? Is a move to the tropics going to be worth it? Let's get over to the island.

Holiday in the Sim

We'll be frank that regardless of whether The Sims 4 Island Living is good, fans of the game will eat this up. The concept of allowing your sims to go on holiday or emigrate to a tropical island will undoubtedly appeal to those micromanaging every aspect of their character's lives. But the question does remain of what's new and what will you be able to do?

Players will take their sims to the island of Sulani. This beautifully-crafted tropical island gives your characters a new backdrop to enjoy and many Polynesian-infused aesthetics.

There's something eerie about The Sims 4 Island Living, as the game replicates real-life island travel to a tee. Sims from the suburbs suddenly become obnoxious tourists doing silly things for basic photo ops or decide to move to the tropics with no idea what they're doing. It's hard to explain, but playing it will help you understand!

So is gameplay at least fun? Well, if you've played any other Sims 4 expansions, you probably know what to expect. It's the same game in a tropical island environment. Players build houses, manage lives, and work towards new (albeit minimal) objectives. It's entertaining, but it wears out its welcome pretty quickly.

Tourist Trade

The Sims 4 Island Living does what it says on the tin. It's the base game on a tropical island. Those who crave the idea of playing essentially the same game with a different aesthetic and a few little twists and turns won't find anything wrong with this expansion. However, suppose you are seeing little interest in continuing playing the base game. In that case, you won't find much enthusiasm with the extra additions.

6

It's not to say that The Sims 4 Island Living isn't worth a go, but at its price for a DLC, you might as well invest in a complete game for a tropical life simulator thrill. Let's say Tropico 6, for example?
