If you are a fan of games that put you in the role of an anti-hero, then 2021s Turbo Overkill should be high up on your list of games to try out. You take on the role of Johnny Turbo in this game, and you are sent to a city ironically known as Paradise. Here, you need to take out an AI known as Syn as it has taken over the whole place and turned it into a nightmare.

What makes this early access title so fun is the fact that it is always adding new innovations. While it might looks like rather odd at times, this is a unique combination of shooting game madness with a range of ideas that simply would only work if they were combined together. The end result is a quirky shooter game with a lot to love.

A successor to the bizzarro FPS games of the 1990s and 2000s

First off, Turbo Overkill is a clear homage to something like Duke Nukem. It is downright bizarre at times, providing a highly intriguing if somewhat weird FPS game to play. What makes it so fun, though, is the array of weapons you get. From grappling hooks that help you propel yourself around the levels to things like a motorbike with a chainsaw on it, you get a very creative arsenal of weapons to take on Syn with.

Many parts of this game feel like Duke Nukem, while others also feel like something like the Evil Dead game. There is a lot to like about what is already present, and with more content to come in the future the rather bizarre story will be explored more closely. While much of the story feels like a bit of an afterthought in the desire to great a downright bizarre game, there is much to find enjoyable about playing Turbo Overkill.

More to come in an intoxicating thriller (7.5/10)

At the time of writing, Turbo Overkill is not finished. And it is still some way from being complete. With much of the first half of the third episode available, though, there are enough enemies, weapons, and enemies to deal with. This helps to create a hugely enjoyable gaming experience where you can spend ample time simply wiping out enemies with reckless abandon.

Like something like Doom Eternal, you spend most of your time hopping around like a maniac shooting anything that even slightly moves or acts. This is why this is such a fun game to play. The minutes melt away as you get to enjoy tactical, engaging first person combat that really keeps you on your toes. The visuals are good, if not amazing, and this can provide you with enough of an upgrade from the games that

Game Reviews

Turbo Overkill is a fast-paced FPS action that takes place in a Cyber-Punk world. In it, you will play Johnny Turbo, who is half-man half-machine, and he has a bunch of augments, such as rockets that come out of his arm and a chainsaw that comes out of his leg. You will need to make use of everything Johnny has, as his objective is to take down an AI that has gone rogue, and it will be no easy mission to do. He will need to go through an army of minions while competing against other bounty hunters.

Clean Paradise

After finally returning home, Johnny Turbo finds out that an AI known as Syn has taken over the city and also took control of all of its citizens. Jhonny is desperate for money and ends ups accepting the job of destroying the Syn AI and freeing Paradise. However, it won't be an easy mission, as the AI has an army of augmented minions protecting it, and other bounty hunters with the same task will appear. Thankfully Jhonny has a lot of weapons to help him complete his missions.

To take on this army of augmented minions, you will need to use everything in your arsenal, and thankfully you will come across some pretty crazy and powerful weapons to help you. Johnny is half-machine, meaning that he has some augmentations himself, an arm with rockets that he can shoot, and one of his legs has a chainsaw that he can use to cut up enemies. You will also come across some pretty cool weapons, like a shotgun with an attached grenade launcher, a pair of Magnums that can lock on to enemies and dispose of them at the same time, and even a sniper rifle that teleports Jhonny inside of the enemy you shot, making them explode from the inside. You will come across other weapons that you can use and also be able to upgrade and make them even stronger. Movement is a big part of the game, and it has a lot of mechanics that will reward you for not staying in one place!

Summary

If you're a fan of games like Doom, Quake, and Duke Nukem, then you will absolutely love Turbo Overkill. Although it might be similar to these games, it has its own unique aspects, and to be honest, there is no problem having another game similar to Doom. Turbo Overkill is going to be released sometime in 2022, and it will be available to play on pretty much every platform.

So if you have been looking for a new frenetic FPS game, be sure to give Turbo Overkill a look. The game looks super fun, as it has a bunch of crazy and unique weapons, and the stages look unique and cool, especially if you're a fan of the Cyberpunk style.
