Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Storm Ground is the latest game to have the Warhammer name and it is a game that I have been very excited about. What is so cool about this is that it is part of the Warhammer universe we have not experienced before in video game form and that right there is why this has gotten so many fans excited. It is a turn-based tactics style of game, but I am sure many people are going to be surprised at just how fast-paced this game is.
The Age of Sigmar!
As the name of the game suggests, Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Storm Ground takes place during the Age of Sigmar. What is great about this is that this is the first time a video game has been set here. Games Workshop I am sure have been very hands-on with this to make sure that it is done right and that fans are not disappointed. To be honest, the majority of Warhammer games are very faithful to the source material so I see no need to worry.
A Rouge Like Campaign!
One of the more interesting aspects of the game is the way it is handling the campaign. The campaign is non-linear and as a result is designed to be played through multiple times with the different factions, changing things as you go. I love rouge like games, I really do, but I have always liked it when Warhammer games have a more focused story so this is one aspect of the game that I am sure will cause a bit of divide between the fans.
In Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Storm Ground there are three different factions that you can play as. The Stormcast Eternals, The Nighthaunt, and the Maggotkin. Each of these factions are drastically different and offers you different ways to play. The Maggotkin for example has the ability to change the landscape, which can give them an edge in battle. Stormcast Eternals on the other hand have powerful armor, making them very hard to kill.
As you play the game, you will be able to unlock new and powerful weapons and spells as well as abilities for your various units and heroes that make up your faction. While this is a turn-based tactics game, it is designed to be quickly paced, meaning that while you do have to think about each move, you are also going to be playing quite quickly and this is going to make things a lot of fun and very tense.
Are We Watching A Monster Movie?
Man do I love the visuals of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Storm Ground! This game looks great and I am not just talking about the cinematics which are always gorgeous in a Warhammer game.
The actual game looks great too with tons of creepy details on each map and the characters looking very detailed. The Maggotkin are one of my personal favorites from the world of Warhammer and seeing them actually be able to move and attack in this game is awesome stuff.
If you enjoy Warhammer then Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Storm Ground has to be on your radar. This is the first time a game has been set here and that is awesome. The thing is, this is looking like one of the best tactic’s games of the year, so even if you have just a passing at best interest in this franchise, I am sure the gameplay mechanics alone will be something that you really do enjoy.
- I love this new setting
- Each of the factions feels very unique
- The campaign is non-linear which I am sure some people will love
- I think the faster-paced gameplay is great
- I am not sure the way the campaign is structured will be my cup of tea
- The online mode is only one vs one battles and no word on all of the modes yet
