Worms 3 was a game that was very appealing to me as it is a series, I have had a lot of fun with since the days of the Amiga! One of the most interesting things about this game is that it is most commonly known as a mobile game, but you can also play it on a computer which is where I have spent most of my time with this game. I will say right away that if you enjoy this series, you will like this game. However, if the series has never really clicked with you, you may not be as impressed with this game.
Going It Alone
Now, if you ask me the real joy and brilliance of a game like Worms 3 is all about playing it against other people. Yet I do have to say that the single player campaign that is on offer here is done very well and is fun to play through. The campaign here gives you the better part of 30 missions to play through and they are divided into different categories such as a scary looking level and a set of levels on a farmyard to name a couple of the styles.
Two Worm Tribes Go To War
The “fundamental” gameplay of Worms 3 has not changed a great deal as at its core it is still about two warring factions of worms that are trying to kill each other. You take turns in pulling off various moves and there are a ton of different classes in this game for you to make use of. Ok, so four classes may not be a ton, but it does add a great deal of strategy to the game as you try and figure out the best way to defeat your enemies. If you have played a Worms game before, you will feel right at home here.
It Is All In The Cards
Perhaps the biggest gameplay gimmick that Worms 3 has to offer is that there are now over forty cards that you can use as you play. These cards will give you certain perks and abilities that you can use to try and give the battle an edge in your favor. Adding cards to a game like this may not be anything radically new, but I feel that it adds an extra bit of fun and strategy to things which is something I legit enjoyed immensely, especially when you are playing against a friend.
The Fun Side Of War
One of the reasons I feel so many people get sucked into Worms is the visuals. Even in the early days of this game with its basic visuals, the presentation was something people got a huge kick out of. Worms 3 looks bright, and slick and has that classic Worms style that we all love and it is an absolute ton of fun, I do feel it has a kind of “mobile” look to it, but I will not hold that against it! If you like the zany look of the Worms games, you will love the way this game looks.
I think that as far as an online game goes, Worms 3 is truly something very, very special. It is a game that I have spent many hours with and a game I often go back to and play a round or two every now and again. It is just pure joy and fans of Worms are going to eat this up and have a fantastic time with it. Who knows, if you have never gotten into the series this could be the game to win you over!
Pros:
- I love the zany style of the Worms characters
- There is a lot of strategy to the battles
- This game is just fun!
- It has a decent amount of single player content for a multiplayer focused game
Cons:
- Non Worms fans may not be convinced!
- The card gimmick may not be to everyone’s taste
