Xenonauts 2

Strategy fans have been excited about Xenonauts 2 for quite some time now. I will admit that I am not the best strategy gamer in the world, but any strategy/tactics style game that has us fighting off an alien threat is always going to be something that gets my attention. While this game we are talking about today is not fully released as I write this. There is more than enough stuff about this game that has me excited so I really wanted to talk about it.

A Very Different Kind Of World!

It was perhaps the setting of Xenonauts 2 that got me the most excited about playing this game. It takes place in 2009 and this is a very different 2009 than the one that we experienced. The Cold War is still happening so tensions between the Iron Curtain and the West are still very high. The Berlin Wall is still standing and it is like the entire world is a massive powder keg. Oh, and there have been more and more reports and sightings of UFOs and aliens from all corners of the globe!

Assembling A Task Force!

Xenonauts 2 puts us in charge of a fairly newly formed task force that is there to analyze and neutralize the alien threat. What I think is very cool about this is that we are very much in the early stages of finding out about this alien threat and as a result, we are learning about these different species and their human conspirers as we go along. While as I write this, I have not exactly sunk my teeth fully into the story, I am very excited to see how this all unfolds and I love the idea that we are front and center at the start of this war with the aliens.

A Real Team Effort

Usually, I get a bit overwhelmed with strategy/tactics games, but Xenonauts 2 is one that has me very excited with how deep it is. Managing our bases around the globe is a huge part of things, but we also have to manage our people as well. Making sure that they have the latest technologies, researching the various alien equipment we find, and of course making sure that their “needs” such as sleep and relaxation are met. There are many spinning plates that you are required to keep on top of here and that is something I am very excited for. However, I will admit that I do worry one wrong move could derail my whole operation.

War!

Of course, Xenonauts 2 has combat for you to get into as well. What I like about the idea of the combat here is that you can fight on the air and on the ground and making use of the various bits of alien technology you get your hands on so you can infuse it with your own is going to add a whole new layer of strategy when it comes to how you go about battles. I think that there is going to be a lot of trial and error here so it is the kind of game that is going to demand a great deal of time from the player and I am more than ok with that.

Pros:

• I love the story of the game
• Being at the start of this alien threat is really cool
• Fusing alien technology that you acquire to make better weapons and stuff is awesome
• The game is very deep and is sure to be one hell of a challenge

Cons:

• The presentation may be a bit simplistic for some
• I get the impression that this is going to demand a great deal of time and patience from the player
