Welcome, one and all, to the show as we introduce you to the top-down rogue-lite shooter that is Bibots. You take control of Tayar, an alien explorer of a strange land, and clear dungeons filled with monsters, interesting powers and many unique secrets to unveil. This game will have you dying and trying again many times over as this can turn from a fun romp through a dungeon to you fighting for your life in a bullet hell screen filled with lights where even the slightest wrong move is the difference between victory and lining up to go again. If that sort of thing interests you, then you are in the right place.
Gameplay
This game has some straight forward gameplay, and when I say that I mean that the concept is easy to understand but applying it properly is another matter. This is very much an “easy to learn but hard to master” sort of game and that becomes clear from the outset. It’s like a top down Returnal, or maybe a better example is The Binding of Isaac.
This game is a medley of crazy concepts perfectly mixed up to provide you with unique and diverse gameplay and a multitude of approaches for you to take with it. This game was built for speed runners and, with that in mind, you will be able to set it so the game keeps track of your runtime and challenge, not just yourself, but all your friends and the speed running community.
There is an astonishing amount of gameplay here which was rich enough that I could keep finding new ways to make it fresh and interesting every time I went in. I played for a good few hours and thoroughly enjoyed every second. If you are looking for a game that pushes the envelope, tries new things while keeping the essence of its genre alive and well, then you could do a lot worse than this.
Visuals
The visuals of this game are brilliant. The art style, along with the presentation of the user interface and level design, were exceptional from start to finish. Everything from the character animations to the way the bullets fly across the screen was amazingly done and didn’t stutter or lag at any point. This is one of the few games where I can honestly say that every time I died, it was absolutely my fault and not the games. And that takes a lot to admit.
Story
The story of this game is pretty straightforward. There’s an evil mastermind, a plot to destroy the world as we know it, and you standing in its way. Need I say more? The story of the game somewhat takes a backseat to the gameplay for this title as the gameplay is really where this one shines. That is not the say that there isn’t a story, there absolutely is and it’s a good one. So, those who like a good narrative won’t be disappointed.
This is a fantastic game and a welcome addition to the genre. If you like a roguelite, you’ll absolutely love this.
Pros
- Fantastic visuals
- Interesting world
- Great narrative
Cons
- Can get very difficult. Not for the faint of heart.
