As a kid of the 80s, I feel like Broforce was made for me! This is a game that is part Contra, part Commando, part Predator and part GI Joe. It takes everything that we loved about 80s action movies and smashes it all together in a fun tongue in cheek style that makes it a truly awesome and kickass experience!
Get To The Chopper!
Is there a more iconic 80s action movie line that this classic? Well, that is pretty much the goal of each level of Broforce. You start on a crazy over the top level and need to blast your way through it until you reach the chopper. Sure, there are boss fights, but that is all there really is to it and I am honestly fine with that as it is so much fun.
No Bro Gets Left Behind
In Broforce you have a ton of different bros that you can play as. They each have their own personality, weapons and some have really useful secondary abilities. My favorite can do split kicks like my hero Jean-Claude Van Damme and he can slow down time! Each bro is clearly inspired by an 80s action icon such as Rambo and Mr. T to name just a couple. When you die, you restart as a new bro. While you may wish you could just play as your favorite bro all the time, I actually really like this. It forces you to try out different characters and sometimes you can get a character whose ability can greatly help you out of a jam.
Destroy It All
I would say that Broforce is best described as a run and gun style of game. What is really cool about it is that as well as destroying what feels like never-ending waves of enemies. You can also destroy the environment. This is is a great feature of the game as it can get you to hidden areas, to the chopper easier and it can also save your butt on occasion too, especially when dealing with some of the brutal bosses the game has.
Bros Playing With Bros
You can play up to four-player multiplayer in Broforce, but in all honesty this was not for me. It was too hectic and hard to know what I was doing. However, you can also play a team deathmatch style mode which is a ton of fun. Especially if you can get some 80s style attitude trash talking going. You can even make your own levels if you want. Or you can download levels that other people have made.
Bro, Do My Pecs Look Pixilated?
I love the SNES style graphics that Broforce has. It has so much charm and personality to it that when you are not freaking out over the intense amount of fire that is coming your way, you will have a big smile on your face the whole time you are playing. It is not just the visuals that make Broforce a real treat for 80s action movie fans. The soundtrack, especially the theme song feels like it was ripped right out of the 80s and that is cool!
As you have probably already guessed, I love Broforce and would give it a fist bump and a bro hug right now if it were, in fact, a real-life bro! It is just so much fun to play and while I loved all the 80s references it made. I think that as an actual game, it is very well made and a ton of fun to play. I really recommend that you check this one out as it is an absolute blast to play.
