Retro gamers rejoice, Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium brings a full wealth of old favorites from as far back as the 80s back to your console. This collection features well over a dozen older arcade games, including everything from fighting games to racers and everything in between.
Winning in each game provides you with “Capcom Arcade Stadium Points” or CASP for short. This currency can be used in-game to give you little perks, such as new cosmetics for the games. While these don’t do anything to boost your skill levels in the game, they’re a nice little perk that gives you something extra.
Huge variety of games, same features
While this large collection of games has a huge variety in gameplay, all of the games have the same set of features to them. You can adjust the difficulty of the games, alter speed, and have a chance to rewind mistakes and try again. If you’re just a casual gamer and don’t have the ability to finish a game perfectly the first go, these options can be a nice relief.
Wide selection of games
The games are presented to you in a neat little arcade format, which looks and feels like a real arcade. Each game is playing on its own little arcade stand, and you play it by putting a coin in a virtual slot. Games include everything from Street Fighter to Side Arms and has an enormous variety in-between.
Just a month prior to the release of Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium we had Capcom Arcade Stadium. Many of the games available on this second version are also on the first version. While there are many different games as well, releasing a game so significantly similar to the last one so quickly is a questionable choice. If you already have Capcom Arcade Stadium, you’ll still be getting some different games from this one but be prepared to see a surprising number of similar games as well.
Multiplayer could be improved
These are all oldies, and as such didn’t really have a lot of multiplayer to begin with. At the same time, these games have been improved for the modern era. It seems like adding more multiplayer options to help keep things fresh would have been a sensible choice, but one the developers chose to ignore. This isn’t necessarily a deal breaker, but many players have noticed the lack of multiplayer options available.
Overall, Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium is a worthwhile game for those who are nostalgic for old games and want to have a chance to play them again. While there is a disappointing amount of overlap between this game and the previous one released just one month before, there’s still plenty of fresh content to keep you busy. If you’re a fan of retro games, this is a worthy addition to your collection.
