Capcom Arcade Stadium is yet another compilation pack from the arcade masters that are known as Capcom. I have lost count at this point of how many times, Capcom has re-released some of these games. Yet, as I keep on buying these same games over and over again on every console since these compilations started on the PS2, I really cannot complain. I do have to say that this is something really cool and you can try it out for free.
What Do I Get For Free?
Ok, so Capcom Arcade Stadium can be downloaded on STEAM (and other systems) for free. What you get for free is the actual software which is great and you get access to 1943, the classic Capcom arcade shooter. You also get logos and wallpapers for the game in the bundle. Now, as I write this, Capcom are also giving you Ghosts n Goblins for free as well. That is two all time classics for nothing. At the very least, it is worth downloading for those games alone.
What Is The Catch?
Well, Capcom is supporting Capcom Arcade Stadium by selling packs of games. Currently, as I write this there are three packs of games, each pack is themed around a few years in gaming. You can buy all three packs together at the same time and save some money. If you factor in how much all of the pack’s costs, you are getting 30 arcade classics for what equals to around a buck per game! I think this is great value for money.
A Line Up Of Classics
Granted, what is classed as a classic is all subjective, but I think Capcom has done a great job with the library of games on offer here. You get three versions of Street Fighter II, Final Fight, Captain Commando, Strider, Forgotten Worlds, 1944: The Loop Master, Giga Wing, and many more. That is just the games that appealed to me off the top of my head, but I think that the majority of the games in this collection are at the very least, good.
Classic Games In A Modern World
I also want to talk about what makes Capcom Arcade Stadium one of the best overall services Capcom has done. To start with the UI and the way the service looks is great, you get a bunch of wallpapers and you can customize your setup so that it looks just the way you want. I found this way more fun than I thought I would! They also give you various display options where you can smooth things out, use scanlines, and so on. They even let you rewind a game while you are playing it which is neat.
There are online leaderboards too so you can prove to your friends that you are the ultimate retro gamer. For a collection of classic games, I do feel that Capcom has tried really hard to make this a package that is attractive, even for those of us that have bought these games many times before.
Including the various Street Fighter collections (which I first bought back during the PS1 days! I have purchased some of these games as many as eight times. I even have the Arcade 1Up Street Fighter II machine in my game room! The point I am making is that if I, someone who has already bought many of these games multiple times thinks that the Capcom Arcade Stadium is a good package, you can be sure that it is. I think the whole way this is presented is great and it is awesome having all these games on my STEAM account. It is also worth noting, it is on other platforms too.
- You get two great games without spending a penny
- The whole service looks and feels cool
- I like the way it celebrates the history of Capcom
- The asking price for all of the game packs is more than fair
- You have probably plated these games a million times before
- By the time you read this, Ghosts n Goblins may not be available for free
