Escape from Golf Purgatory and become a bona fide golfing legend in Cursed to Golf, a whimsical take on an otherwise quite serious pastime. This adventure will take players through a mystical land dedicated to the sport, where they’ll meet powerful golf instructors that can teach them the way for their character to return to the world of the living.

Though we’ve seen our fair share of outlandish golf titles with games like What the Golf? and Super Stickman Golf 3, Cursed to Golf goes one step beyond to deliver an entertaining plot that goes well with the rest of the game’s crazy gameplay mechanics.

Destined to Greatness

The game begins when a pro golfer, about to make the decisive shot of an international golf championship, is struck by a freak accident and sent to Golf Purgatory, a place where the players that were destined to become legends of golf spend eternity. Luckily for them, it’s not too late, and they can return to the world of the living as long as they beat the perilous golf curses of the underworld.

Cursed to Golf plays in a 2D side-scrolling perspective, much like the aforementioned Super Stickman Golf series. Another thing they have in common is that your golfer will have to face not just mere golf holes, but they’ll also have to overcome insane obstacles that will put players’ reflexes to the ultimate test of skill.

In your journeys, your character will come across legendary caddies of purgatory that might teach you a few tricks. There are also a variety of ghostly golfers from beyond the grave that you’ll have to beat if you hope to make it out of purgatory and win the tournament you left before you passed away.

Perfect your Technique

As is the case in every golf game, skill plays a fundamental role in Cursed to Golf’s gameplay. However, every hole in this game is riddled with obstacles and traps, and that’s when the roguelike elements kick in in full gear.

Every time you go over pair on any given hole, you’ll have to start over from the beginning of the whole course. The best way around this predicament is to make good use of the game’s Ace Card power-ups. Since this is a roguelite game at heart, where and when you find said power-ups will be completely randomized, making the game feel new each time you play it.

To add even more variety to the gameplay, every course is randomly-picked from a vast pool with four different biomes. All of this adds a lot of replayability to Cursed to Golf, which, in the long run, has proved to be one of the most addictive “golf-like” experiences we’ve tried.

We haven’t even mentioned the characters and the quality of the game’s overall plot, which are all simply fantastic. Cursed to Golf is presented in a 2D retro aesthetic that features very well-detailed sharp sprites and interesting character and location design. This all falls in line with the rest of the games released by Thunderful Publishing, like the mesmerizing Source of Madness.
