Games are often about exploring paths we would never normally take in real life. DeepWeb Simulator is one such game, allowing players to explore and engage in the online criminal world. Players can make online advertisements, hack others, and make covert drop-offs to grow their criminal empire.

Of course, just like anything in the criminal world, every action a player makes has its risks. There’s always a chance a deal will go sour, and the player will lose reputation, money or more.

Black Market Basics

Players are thrown at once into the dark world of the Deep Web. The goal for players is to buy ingredients off the black market to create and sell illicit drugs, and then deliver them to consumers in high-risk drop offs. The police are everywhere in the game, adding risk to even the most basic aspects of the game. Successful completion of different parts of the game improves your reputation. Failing a drop-off or getting caught by the police results in a loss of reputation.

Try for Free

DeepWeb Simulator is currently in early release, but if you’re not sure or want to try it for free, they have a sample version of the game on Steam. DeepWeb Simulator: Prologue lets you test the waters in gameplay, to see if you like the look and feel of the game before buying.

Although this gives you a general idea of the game, the prologue appears to have some problems that will hopefully be fixed in the full version. Some boxes don’t open, and many people struggled with the hacking aspects of the game. A lack of tutorial also complicated matters, forcing players to guess while feeling the tension of their illegal activities. This may or may not be fixed in the full version of the game. Time will tell.

So-So Graphics

DeepWeb Simulator is about on par with other simulators of the same caliber. The graphics are similar to games like Supermarket Simulator, with a lot of AI or free assets and not a terrible lot of detail. Despite the relatively simple graphics, the game looks fine and does a good job of adding to the atmosphere of the game.

Responsive Developers

Although the game is still in early development, it’s clear that the developer plans to fix bugs and provide support. The developers reply to players that have problems, and regularly release improvements and bug fixes to the game. This is always an encouraging sign with a new game. If you encounter an issue, it’s good to know that it could be fixed relatively quickly.

7

Although DeepWeb Simulator is a crime game, it is presented in a manner that isn’t frightening or crude. Instead, the developers pack tension and fun into every moment of gameplay. Best of all, the game offers a free preview of what gameplay is like, so you don’t have to spend money on something you’re not sure you will like.

Pros:

  • Fresh new angle on simulator games
  • Illegal drugs are presented in a comedic light

Cons:

  • Some bugs
