Disgaea 3 Absence of Justice

Disgaea 3 Absence of Justice is a game that I have very fond memories of. When this came out, I had just gotten out of the hospital thanks to a burst appendix and I spent the next two weeks playing this game to death. While it does have many similarities with the previous games, you can play this one on its own and not feel like you are missing out on anything. With a macabre style and a wicked sense of humor, this is one of my favorite tactics-based RPGs of all time!

The Evil Academy

The story of Disgaea 3 Absence of Justice is something you will either love or hate. This is a game that is not taking itself seriously at all and the humor is wacky. It takes place in the evil academy where students learn how to be evil. Our main character is a guy called Mao and he has his sights on taking over his father’s place as ruler of the underworld. There is a whole good going bad and bad going good thing going on here with the story and Mao and the supporting cast are a great deal of fun. I can see why some people may get sick of the jokes, but I always had a smile on my face while playing this game.

Sprite So Nice

The presentation of Disgaea 3 Absence of Justice is truly amazing and as they used sprites to bring these characters to life, it holds up very well to this day. The game uses sprites on isometric 3D style backgrounds, kind of similar to the way games like Final Fantasy Tactics do things. The whole underworld style of the game gives it all a ton of personality and I found it very easy to get sucked into this world because of how good it looked.

Making The Most of Your Turn

Disgaea 3 Absence of Justice is a turn-based tactics RPG so that should give you an idea of what to expect here. Each turn you can select what you want to do. You can decide to attack, use a special move, an item, and so on. There are these geo-blocks which when you are on them can give you various advantages in battle. You have different classes to make your team up from and you also have different tiers in each class that can also add a bit of individuality. There are weapons, abilities, and more that you can also make use of to make sure characters are just the way you like them to be.

Keeping You Busy

I do have to warn you that Disgaea 3 Absence of Justice is not the game for you if you do not have a lot of time to dedicate to it. This game has a level cap of 999! And that means there is a lot of griding. To be fair, they make the grinding fun and even stuff like improving your weapons never feels like a chore. This is the kind of game that is very easy to get into a groove with and in that regard, it can become quite addictive. However, I could also see someone spending a lot of time with the game, having a great time, but then hitting a wall where they have had their fill and decide that is enough.

Pros:

• I liked the main group of characters
• The humor is very well done
• The gameplay is easy to figure out, but there is a lot of depth to it
• This is a game that will keep you busy for a very long time

Cons:

• Some people may have a hard time clicking with the humor
• The game demands a great deal of your time
