Disney Infinity 3.0

The whole concept of bringing a toy box into the video game world seems a bit redundant. But here we are, breaking barriers between physical playtimes and digital ones. Disney Infinity 3.0 has had a couple predecessors to lead them up to this third offering, with promises to make that new toy box even more enticing.

Albeit slightly peculiar, the Disney Infinity franchise has surprisingly produced some decent games. Where there's a mish-mash of characters, campaigns, and mechanics - one would usually feel the gameplay is disjointed. That hasn't been the case, and Disney Infinity 3.0 seeks to continue its good rapport focusing on the Star Wars franchise.

To Infinity, Again!

Played any of the games in the Disney Infinity franchise? You'll know that the core of gameplay revolves around the toys-to-life genre. For those that don't quite grasp the concept - it's how it sounds. The player will sort through their own toybox of franchise figures and go on adventures with them. In Disney Infinity 3.0, there's a heavy Star Wars vibe going on.

That Star Wars focus serves as the basis of the game's story mode's offering multiple narratives as characters from the franchise loosely based on the films. Where you'd think there wouldn't be much to it, the combat, level design, and pace of gameplay in each section are excellent. For their few hours run times, it's surprising how engaged they keep you.

But Disney Infinity 3.0 has yet to offer the bread and butter of their franchise - the toybox mode. This liberal gameplay approach allows players to dive into a wealth of Disney characters to forge their own worlds and games. Almost serving as a development engine, there are hours of fun creating Disney-based games. Whether it's for yourself or to share with friends, it's hard to put down.

Disney Infinity 3.0 is not lackluster by any count. When we associate big film franchises with games, the results are often questionable. This game takes the concept of digital entertainment by the horns - and throws it into the arena for your gameplay leisure. Whether you're up for a polished story mode or immersive build mode - the world is your oyster.

Retired But Not Forgotten

Apart from the meager frustration of the character availability in the starter pack - there's nothing wrong with Disney Infinity 3.0. It's spectacular how the game has managed to turn such a variety of gameplay into a polished, holistic, and entertaining offering. It's accessible to all, mechanically refined, and an absolute joy to play through.

It takes the world-building ideas of Minecraft and translates them into Disney's diverse character roster. Anybody who's ever created their own adventures in a physical toyboy will discover a wealth of nostalgia and entertainment. The franchise was announced to end here - but Disney Infinity 3.0 has assured that it signs off in style.

Pros:

  • Polished campaign mode that is high-octane and exciting
  • Build mode serves a nearly endless number of creative options
  • Diverse gameplay lets you create any genre of game

Cons:

  • Lack of characters in the starter pack will annoy players
